Methods and systems for analysis of the polymerization material of solution polymerization processes are provided. In certain embodiments, the methods and systems subject the polymerization material to Raman spectroscopy analysis. The Raman spectroscopy provides analysis of reaction mixtures and/or product streams in solution polymerization processes. The Raman spectroscopy analysis may include both compositional and characterization analysis of the reaction mixtures and product streams. The spectroscopy results can be used to provide process control feedback to adjust operating parameters of the reactor operations and/or an associated polymerization product handling and finishing processes.

On-line analysis of polymer properties for control of a solution phase reaction system

Methods and systems for analysis of the polymerization material of high pressure polymerization processes are provided. In certain embodiments, the methods and systems subject the polymerization material to Raman spectroscopy analysis. The Raman spectroscopy provides analysis of reaction mixtures and/or product streams in high pressure polymerization processes. The Raman spectroscopy analysis may include both compositional and characterization analysis of the reaction mixtures and product streams. The spectroscopy results can be used to provide process control feedback to adjust operating parameters of the reactor operations and/or an associated polymerization product handling and finishing processes.

On-line raman analysis and control of a high pressure reaction system

Method and systems for online analysis of a polymeric material within a mixing device are provided. In certain embodiments, the methods and systems subject the polymeric material to Raman spectroscopy analysis. The Raman spectroscopy provides analysis of polymer properties that may include melt index, density, viscosity, molecular weight, molecular weight distribution, weight ratios of different polymers comprising the polymeric material, additive concentrations, crosslinking agent concentrations, scissoring agent concentrations, and combinations thereof. The spectroscopy results can be used to provide process control to adjust operating parameters of the mixing device and/or an associated polymerization process. The mixing device may be an extruder. The methods and systems may also include a processor for evaluating the results of the Raman analysis and automatically adjusting the mixing device and/or polymerization processes.

On-line properties analysis of a molten polymer by raman spectroscopy for control of a mixing device

Methods are provided for determining and controlling polymer properties on-line in a polymerization reactor system, such as a fluidized bed reactor. The methods include obtaining a regression model for determining a polymer property, the regression model including principal component loadings and principal component scores, acquiring a Raman spectrum of a polyolefin sample comprising polyolefin, calculating a new principal component score from at least a portion of the Raman spectrum and the principal component loadings, and calculating the polymer property by applying the new principal component score to the regression model. The property can be controlled by adjusting at least one polymerization parameter based on the calculated polymer property.

On-line measurement and control of polymer properties by raman spectroscopy

Methods are provided for determining and controlling polymer product properties on-line in a slurry reactor system, such as a stirred slurry or slurry loop reactor. The methods include obtaining a regression model for determining a polymer product property, the regression model including principal component loadings and principal component scores, acquiring a Raman spectrum of polymer product in the slurry reactor system, calculating a new principal component score from at least a portion of the Raman spectrum and the principal component loadings, and calculating the polymer product property by applying the new principal component score to the regression model. The property can be controlled by adjusting at least one polymerization parameter based on the calculated polymer product property.
