A subsurface safety valve actuation system in well tubing comprising a safety valve, piston assembly, motor, pump, spring, reservoir, first valve, and second valve configured to provide pressure in a chamber of the piston assembly that drives the safety valve to an open position, retain pressure in the chamber that retains the safety valve in the open position, release pressure in the chamber via a first hydraulic release path and/or a second hydraulic release path between the chamber and the reservoir that extends through the first valve and second valve, respectively, and the first and second hydraulic release paths being independent from each other, whereby pressure in the chamber that retains the safety valve in the open position may be released via the first or second hydraulic release path when there is a fault in the other of the first or second release path.

Subsurface safety valve actuator

A subsea drilling, production or processing actuation system comprising a variable speed electric motor () adapted to be supplied with a current, a reversible hydraulic pump () driven by the motor, a hydraulic piston assembly () connected to the pump and comprising a first chamber (), a second chamber () and a piston () separating the first and second chambers and configured to actuate a valve () in a subsea system, a fluid reservoir () connected to the pump and the hydraulic piston assembly, the pump, hydraulic piston assembly and reservoir connected in a substantially closed hydraulic system, and a pressure compensator () configured to normalize pressure differences between outside the hydraulic system and inside the hydraulic system.

Subsea actuation system

The present invention provides an improved two-stage actuator () that broadly includes: a first cylinder (); an intensifier piston () mounted in the first cylinder for sealed sliding movement therealong, the intensifier piston having a large-area surface () exposed to ambient pressure, and having a small-area surface (); a second cylinder () having an end wall (); an actuator piston () mounted in the second cylinder for sealed sliding movement therealong; an actuator rod () connected to the actuator piston for movement therewith and having an intermediate portion sealingly penetrating the second cylinder end wall; the actuator piston having a large-area surface () and a small-area surface (), an intermediate chamber () communicating the intensifier piston small-area surface with the actuator piston large-area surface; and an incompressible fluid in the chamber; whereby ambient pressure (i.e., the pressure of sea water at the depth at which the device is submerged) will create pressure in the intermediate chamber for urging the actuator piston to move toward the second cylinder end wall.

Two-stage submersible actuators

An electrohydraulic actuator () includes a fluid-powered actuator () having a piston () in a cylinder (). The piston divides the cylinder into two opposed chambers (). The actuator includes a fixed-displacement reversible motor-driven pump () having a first port communicating with one of the chambers and having a second port communicating with the other of the chambers in a closed hydraulic system. A pre-charged accumulator () communicates with the pump first port. One of the actuator chambers is maintained at a fixed pre-charged pressure of the accumulator, and the operation of the pump controls the pressure in, and volume of, the other chamber.

Closed-system electrohydraulic actuator

A servoactuator () is operatively arranged to control the movement of an output member () in either of two directions in response to a command signal. The servoactuator includes an electric motor (); a first transmission mechanism (); a hydrostatic second transmission mechanism (); a transfer mechanism () operatively arranged to selectively couple the motor output shaft to the output member either through the first transmission mechanism to impart a high-speed low-force drive to the output member, or through the second transmission mechanism to impart a low-speed high-force drive to the output member; at least one feedback transducer (); and a servo control loop () closed about the motor, controller, transmission mechanisms, transfer mechanism, feedback transducer and output member for selectively controlling at least one of the position, velocity or force of the output member as a function of the command signal.

Servoactuator having motor-driven actuator with hydraulic force amplification

A servoactuator () is operatively arranged to control the movement of an output member () in either of two directions in response to a command signal. The servoactuator includes an electric motor (); a motor controller (); a first transmission mechanism (); a hydrostatic second transmission mechanism (); a transfer mechanism () operatively arranged to selectively couple the motor output shaft to the output member either through the first transmission mechanism to impart a high-speed low-force drive to the output member, or through the second transmission mechanism to impart a low-speed high-force drive to the output member; at least one feed-back transducer (); and a servo control loop () closed about the motor, controller, transmission mechanisms, transfer mechanism, feedback transducer and output member for selectively controlling at least one of the position, velocity or force of the output member as a function of the command signal.
