Targeted lipids and lipid particles are described which are assemblies of multipolar lipids, targeting molecules such as antibodies and polyanions. The lipids are of particular use for the delivery of bioactive substances such as nucleic acids to cells in vitro and especially in vivo.

A method for recovering and recycling excess hydrogen from process vent streams in the production of highly pure terephthalic acid where the production of the pure terephthalic acid comprises catalytically hydrogenating impure terephthalic acid, which typically contains 4-carboxybenzaldehyde (4-CBA), color bodies and other impurities, in aqueous liquid phase solution at elevated temperature and pressure.

Purified terephthalic acid is prepared by a process of subjecting an aqueous solution of crude terephthalic acid to hydrogenation to reduce impurities, crystallizing this solution to produce a slurry of purified terephthalic acid in an aqueous liquor, and carrying out an integrated separation washing process.

Purified terephthalic acid is prepared by a process of subjecting an aqueous solution of crude terephthalic acid to hydrogenation to reduce impurities, crystallizing this solution to produce a slurry of purified terephthalic acid in an aqueous liquor, and carrying out an integrated separation washing process using a centrifuge having washing facilities.

The compounds are useful for imaging and in the treatment of abnormal cell disorders, such as in the treatment of tumours, and may be coupled to other molecules, such as proteins for use in diagnosis and therapy.

Tetra-aza macrocycles and processes for their preparation

Terephthalic acid is produced by oxidation of para xylene, purified in an aqueous phase and recovered by precipitating a purified product from the aqueous phase, the aqueous phase mother liquor is then cooled or evaporated to produce a further less pure precipitate and a second mother liquor and the less pure precipitate is returned to the reaction medium and/or the water of the second mother liquor is used to dissolve the crude solid and/or the second mother liquor is treated to recover water which is used to wash the precipitate recovered from the aqueous solution. The process produces better yields of terephthalic acid, reduces the use of water and reduces problems in the disposal of polluted waste water.

Process for the production of terephthalic acid

A polyarylsulphone is prepared by the polycondensation of a bisphenol with an aryl dichloride, at least one of which contains a sulphone group, in the presence of a base and introducing into the reaction mixture less than 5% mole, relative to the aryl dichloride, of 4,4'-difluorodiphenylsulphone. The bisphenol and aryldichloride can be of 4,4'-dihydroxydiphenylsulphone and 4,4'-dichlorodiphenylsulphone respectively. The difluoro compound is added when the polymerisation is essentially complete. The polymer product if of improved quality.

Preparation of polyarylenesulfone from bis(chloroaryl) sulfone, dihydric

Alkylation of aromatic hydrocarbons, especially toluene methylation, is carried out in the presence of a catalyst comprising an aluminosilicate zeolite of the ZSM-5 type in which some or all of the protons of the zeolite have been replaced by monovalent cations. Preferably, the replacement cations are sodium ions, the catalyst preferably containing more than 2% by weight of sodium.

Production of aromatic hydrocarbons

Manufacture of amines by reacting alcohols with ammonia in the presence of a catalyst comprising zeolite FU-1 in which some or all of the protons of the zeolite have been replaced by monovalent cations, for example sodium. The process is especially useful for the manufacture of methylamines in which the proportions of monomethylamine and dimethylamine obtained are selectively increased in preference to trimethylamine.

Manufacture of amines from alcohols with zeolite FU-1 catalysts

A process for the manufacture of an amine by reacting an alcohol, for example methanol, with ammonia at an elevated temperature in the presence of the hydrogen form of zeolite FU-1 or zeolite FU-1 in which some or all of the protons have been replaced by bivalent or trivalent cations.
