Embodiments of an antenna system for notebook, laptop and portable computers and methods for communicating in multiple wireless systems are generally described herein. Other embodiments may be described and claimed. In some embodiments, a notebook computer comprises a plurality of transceivers, a plurality of antennas coupled to the transceivers with coaxial cables, and signal separation circuitry coupled to at least one of the coaxial cables to allow the at least one coaxial cable to be shared by two or more of the transceivers.

A self-organizing network and method of operation includes a plurality of kindred nodes and, in some applications, a hub node communicating data packets from source nodes to destination nodes remote from the source nodes. Each data packet includes information (e.g. priority, number of hops, etc.) and packet handling commands. A source node receives data packets with the information and packet handling commands and adjusts its operation (e.g. transmitting power, frequency, bandwidth, etc.) in a way that allows the network to be self-organizing, self-configuring, and self-healing so that data packets are retransmitted from source nodes to destination nodes with a minimum of hops and delay.

Capability addressable network and method therefor

A wireless, peer-to-peer, capability addressable network (22) is disclosed. The network (22) accommodates any number of peers (20). Network connections are formed based upon proximity between peers (20) and upon a needs and capabilities evaluation (82). Networks (22) support three classifications of service capabilities: service requesting, service providing, and service relaying. Wireless communications occur at a sufficiently low power to form a detection zone (28) of less than five meters for many peers (20).

A communication system (10), having dynamic nodes such as satellites (12), require narrow-tolerance communication parameters such as timing and frequency. A voice subscriber unit (26) establishes a traffic channel (17) by negotiating communication parameters. A user of voice subscriber unit (26) generates inherent voice pauses in communications. A data subscriber unit (31) possess a datagram for delivery through communication system (10). Instead of negotiating a dedicated traffic channel for delivery of the datagram, data subscriber unit (31) monitors an active voice subscriber unit (26) and determines if the communication parameters used by voice subscriber unit (26) are compatible for data subscriber unit (31). Data subscriber unit (31), upon detecting a voice pause by voice subscriber unit (26), transmits the datagram to satellite (12) using the negotiated communication parameters of voice subscriber unit (26).

Method of transmitting data during voice pauses in a synchronous

Apparatus and a method are disclosed for transporting a motor scooter or similar type vehicle on the back of a motor vehicle such as an automobile, van, pick-up truck or the like. The apparatus of the present invention attaches to the rear of the motor vehicle and includes a platform which, when not in use, is oriented in a vertical direction. When the apparatus is used to transport a motor scooter, the platform is lowered to the ground and the motor scooter can be loaded onto the platform. A restraining bar is used to secure the scooter to the platform. The platform, still with the horizontal orientation, is raised to prevent contact with the ground when the motor vehicle is in motion. To remove the motor scooter, the platform is lowered to the ground, the lowering of the platform causing the restraining bar to be released. The motor scooter can then be removed from the platform and the platform secured in a vertical orientation until required further. The platform is configured to permit motor scooters having different wheel configurations to be carried thereon.
