According to an embodiment of the disclosure, a system for providing thermal management of an obscured laser system is provided that includes a primary mirror, a secondary mirror, and a plurality of energy redirectors. The primary mirror is configured to reflect beam energy for the laser system. The secondary mirror is configured to function as a limiting aperture for the laser system and is aligned on-axis with respect to the primary mirror. The energy redirectors are each configured to redirect energy away from a corresponding obscuration and out of the laser system.

System and method for providing thermal management of an obscured laser system

A shield for use with a detector includes a first opening adjacent the detector, a second opening opposite the first opening along an optical axis intersecting the detector, and a field of view defined by the detector and the second opening. A shield body includes alternating curved profile regions and linear profile regions coaxially aligned along the optical axis. The curved profile regions have respective curved interior surfaces concave facing toward the second opening, and the linear profile regions have respective interior surfaces facing toward the first opening. In this way, specular reflections associated with stray light may be greatly reduced.

This invention discloses an illumination device for use in image reading applications. The illumination device comprises a light guide and a light source attached to one end of the light guide, which consists of a rod-shaped body with two end light reflectors made of metal clips. The two lateral surfaces of the light guide causes total internal reflection of light rays impinging upon the surface from within the light guide. The curved top surface of the light guide serves the function of focusing. The narrow bottom surface along the light guide reflects the light with a series of highly reflective paint stripes of varying widths applied upon it. The light source comprises a plurality of light emitting elements and at least a center of the light emitting elements is placed along a normal line passing through a center of the reflection area when viewed in a longitudinal direction of the light guide. A light beam applied from the light source is scattered and reflected by a scatter and reflection area of the light guide to illuminate an original document.

A bireflective lens element comprising a light input surface and a direct transmitting area communicating with the light input surface. A light source is disposed adjacent to the light input surface for projecting light into the lens element to create a light emitting assembly. A first portion of input light is directed through the lens elements in a first predetermined pattern. A primary and a secondary reflecting area is between the light input surface and an illumination surface surrounding the direct light transmitting area. A second portion of input light is redirected through the lens element to the illumination surface in a second predetermined pattern. Specifically, the secondary reflective area has a plurality of extracting facets extending inwardly into the secondary reflective area for intercepting light from the primary reflective area. The first predetermined pattern combines with the second predetermined pattern to output light from the illumination surface in a substantially uniform pattern covering the broad area of the lens element.
