Non-limiting examples of the present disclosure relate to service-backed generation and management of digital ruled paper templates in an exemplary application/service such as a notetaking service. As an example, access to a user account of a notetaking service is detected. A digital context associated with the user account is evaluated. An evaluation of the digital context comprises identifying user identity data associated with the user account and analyzing domain specific data of the notetaking service that corresponds with the identified user identity data. The domain specific data may comprise data identifying a specific electronic notebook of the notetaking service. A customized listing of digital ruled paper templates is populated based on an evaluation of the digital context. The customized listing of digital ruled paper templates is transmitted to the client computing device, which surfaces the customized listing of digital ruled paper templates in a user interface of the notetaking service.

Service backed digital ruled paper templates

Improved accuracy and user interaction efficiency for selecting a grouping of digital strokes is provided. In response to receiving an indication of a selection input on or in proximity to a digital stroke, a determination is made as to whether the digital stroke is part of an existing group of digital strokes. When the digital stroke is not part of an existing group, an analysis of the digital stroke and other digital strokes within a calculated boundary is performed for determining which strokes should be included in a stroke grouping. A stroke grouping is generated based on the determination. Accordingly, in response to the selection input on or in proximity to the digital stroke, the selection is expanded to the stroke grouping, thus improving the accuracy of the selection gesture and improving computer efficiency.

Intuitive selection of a digital stroke grouping

Architecture that facilitates offline/online interaction with online collaboration documents or pages such as for wikis and/or notebooks. More specifically, for every proto link employed in a page, a unique object ID is provided. The client, whether online or offline, uses the object ID as the page's object ID when a target page is created at the time of resolving the associated proto link (e.g., when a user clicks on a proto link to navigate to the proto page). When an offline client connects to an online state, changes are synchronized (synced). All the pages created offline from the same proto link will have the same object ID and the content of the pages are then synced correctly under the same page ID and name.

Online/offline proto link behavior and proto page conflict resolution

An extensible, data-driven, language independent source code editor is presented, with an embedded, extensible multi-language compiler framework. Such an editor can be tightly integrated with a compiler framework that provides detailed information about the language currently being edited by the user. This information can be provided in a language-neutral way effectively decoupling the editor from the underlying set of languages being edited. In addition, a language-independent editor can expose a set of APIs that makes it easy to customize behavior for specific languages that have characteristics not shared by most languages. This set of APIs can also enable the development of customized views, such as for developing visual editors that represent and allow the user to manipulate aspects of the source code pictorially. This description is not intended to be a complete description of, or limit the scope of, the invention. Methods for type-independent source code editing

Techniques to cross-reference information for application programs are described. An apparatus may comprise a first application program to create notes for an operator, a second application program to display a target document, and a context reference module to generate a context reference for the target document indicating a source for the target document, display the context reference, and associate the context reference with a note. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

Techniques to associate information between application programs

A search engine implements a multi-level search scheme. A first level involves performing a keyword search based on character matching. A second level, performed only if the first level yields no results, is a keyword search based on phonetic representations of a search phrase and of the keywords. A third level, performed only if the first and second levels yield no results, is a rough matching search. The keywords or keyword phrases are specified in a phrase table. Each entry of the phrase table specifies a keyword phrase, its phonetic representation, a topic URL, and an action that is to be performed in conjunction with the topic URL. There are a plurality of defined actions, having different priorities. If multiple keyword phrases are found in the multi-level search, the one having the action with the highest priority is initiated. If there is a tie for the highest priority, the results are listed in a results page, regardless of the actions associated with the matched entries. Different actions can be specified in the phrase table entries, corresponding to different levels of the multi-level search scheme that were required to discover a matching entry.

Flexible keyword searching

Attributes of objects within a file that was created in a different environment from that in which the file is opened are preserved, enabling the attributes to be maintained after the file is saved. For example, an HTML document created with a text editor includes objects such as plain text and HTML tags with which attributes such as whitespace, line breaks, and indent level are associated. When such a document is opened in an HTML editor implementing the present invention, the attributes of these objects are preserved. Even when changes to these objects occur, to the extent possible, attributes of objects that were in the document as originally opened in the HTML editor are determined, so that these attributes can be applied to related objects that are added to the document or in regard to changes that are made by the user. The preservation of persistent object attributes is also applicable to other types of software applications such as language development systems and word processing programs. This invention thus insures, for example, that functions developed in newer versions of a program, although not recognized in an earlier version, persist when a file is opened in the earlier version and then saved.

Robust modification of persistent objects while preserving formatting and other attributes

A method of searching keyword phrases based on a search phrase includes a step of ordering the search phrase among the plurality of keyword phrases based on phoneme sequences of the search phrase and the keyword phrases, in accordance with a predefined phonetic search order. The search order is defined so that similar sounding phonemes are adjacent each other. Furthermore, sounds are ordered beginning with sounds made at the front of the mouth and proceeding in order with sounds made farther and farther back in the mouth. When searching for a particular search phase, the method includes returning any matching keyword phrase, as well as any keyword phrases that are adjacent the search phrase in the predefined phonetic search order.

Flexible keyboard searching

A method of allowing an Internet user to change the color of an object within an image includes a design phase in which a designer identifies pixels forming the object. This phase includes specifying a base color and ranges of hues, luminances, and saturations around those of the base color. Any pixels in these ranges are selected as part of the image and an HLS differential is calculate for each of the selected pixels. An HLS differential includes a hue component, which in turn includes a target hue toward which the pixel is tinted relative to a base hue of the object. The hue component also includes a variation degree indicating a degree by which the pixel is tinted from the base hue toward the target hue. The HLS differential also includes luminance and saturation components indicating luminance and saturation variations from the luminance and saturation of the base color. The HLS differentials are transmitted to requesting clients instead of the nominal pixel values, and the client uses the HLS differentials in conjunction with a new base color specified by a user to calculate actual pixel values.
