A method of reducing symptoms of neurodegenerative disease in a human is provided. The method comprises applying to the human a solution or salve to at least one of the skin, the mouth, the nasal cavities, the lungs, the eyes, or the vagina of the human. The applied solution or salve comprises an effective amount of an isomerized or conjugated linoleic acid cation salt having a conjugated diene for at least a measurable improvement in the movement or mental acuity of the human and a structure of —C═C—C═C—. The measurable improvement in the movement or mental acuity of the human is within 4-6 weeks of the applying of the solution or salve. A method of making the conjugated diene and a device for measuring the reduction of systems is also provided.

The present disclosure relates to methods and compositions for suppressing pathogenic bacterial growth, fungal growth, or microbial growth in or on a selected area of skin or open wound. An area of the skin or open wound having pathogenic bacterial growth, fungal growth, or microbial growth is selected for the suppression of the growth. A suppressing material comprising punicic acid is applied to the selected area of the skin and the pathogenic bacterial growth, fungal growth, or microbial growth is suppressed. Methods of making and using the suppressing material comprising punicic acid are also presently provided.

The present disclosure relates to methods and compositions for suppressing the growth of fungus on selected areas of the skin. A composition for suppressing deep seated fungal growth comprising conjugated linoleic acid, Punicic acid, or combination thereof, and niacinamide and L-aspartic acid is provided herein. Methods of making and using the composition are also presently provided.

Methods and composition for suppression of deep seated fungal growth on skin

The present disclosure relates to methods and compositions for suppressing the growth of microorganisms on selected areas of the skin for an extended period of time, such as one hour, twenty four hours, seventy two hours, or longer. An area of the skin is selected for the suppression of the growth of microorganisms and a microorganism growth suppressing agent is topically applied to the selected area of the skin. The microorganism growth suppressing agent may be comprised in a pharmacologically acceptable vehicle such as an emulsion or soap. The microorganism growth suppressing agent comprises free conjugated fatty acid such as conjugated linoleic acid.

Method and composition for long acting bacterial suppression on skin

Stable emulsions comprising as a base one or more diene conjugated fatty acids. Amino acids and other macromolecules can be used to stabilize the emulsion. The emulsion is also useful as a carrier and delivery vehicle of the macromolecules to humans or animals in need of the macromolecules. Plant oil extracts, such as conjugated linoleic acid and its acylated derivatives, are useful as the diene conjugated fatty acids that form the base of the stable emulsion. The emulsions formed are useful as nutritional or cosmetic adjuvant for oral based nutrition, skin diseases, cosmetic utility, enhancing oral nutrition, or pharmacological benefit. Methods of producing and using the emulsions are also provided.

Conjugated fatty acid based emulsion and methods for preparing and using same

Disclosed is a method and circuit for repetitively firing a flash lamp. The method utilizes a power supply having a periodic voltage signal. The method times the discharge of the flash lamp to occur when the power supply signal is below the flash lamp self extinguishing voltage such that the flash lamp de-ionizes while the power supply signal remains below the self extinguishing voltage, thus preventing afterglow. The circuit utilizes a means for detecting when the voltage of the power supply voltage signal falls below the self extinguishing voltage to trigger the flash lamp. An additional embodiment adds a means for interrupting current flow in the flash lamp before the voltage across a storage capacitor falls below said self extinguishing voltage. The method and circuit may be extrapolated for use with other electromechanical devices.

Method and circuit for repetitively firing a flash lamp or the like

A device for soft irradiation comprising a reflector having a cross-section in the shape of a spiral and an electromagnetic radiation source positioned off-axis such that the source is shielded from direct view. A cooling vent and openings provide impingement cooling of the source to allow efficient use of a high intensity radiation source. Cooling of the source may be further improved with the addition of one or more fluid moving devices in flow communication with the reflector. Optical reflectance coatings on the surface of the reflector or transmission filters allow the device to provide radiation output in selective bandwidths. Multiple reflectors may be used in combination to evenly illuminate complex or large surfaces. There are specific utilities to this design with both pulsed and continuous light sources.

Device for soft irradiation

A method and apparatus to effect tanning in humans. The method utilizes very short discrete pulses, with a dark period of low to zero energization between discrete pulses, of ultraviolet or visible light irradiation of selected wave length to effect the tanning. Different apparati are disclosed to carry out the invention. One type of apparatus continuously generates irradiation of the selected wave length and projects that irradiation through mechanical pathblockers to create the discrete pulses. Another type of apparatus intermittently generates irradiation in the desired discrete pulse and of the desired wave length to create the desired effect.

Method of inducing tanning by pulsed light and apparatus to effect same

A mechanical apparatus to provide pulses of light for tanning. One embodiment of the apparatus comprises a light source radiating light; a hollow cylinder having an inner and an outer cylindrical surface and an axis, the hollow cylinder having at least one opening through the inner to the outer cylindrical surface, the light source being inside the hollow cylinder, at least some of the light radiating from the light source passing through the at least one opening in the hollow cylinder; an apparatus to axially rotate the hollow cylinder; and, a surface having an opening therethrough. As the hollow cylinder is axially rotated, at least some of the light radiating from the light source passing through the at least one opening in the hollow cylinder will come into light communication with the opening in the surface and pass therethrough, thereby creating a pulse of light. Another embodiment incorporates at least two counter rotating cylinders which are coaxially aligned around a light source. Further, devices employing a plurality of side by side cylinder combinations is included. These combinations rotate so that pulses of light are simultaneously radiated from each cylinder. The cylinders can be rotated by a motor or by an air turbine.

Apparatus to provide pulses of light

This invention is for a mechanical apparatus which ensures that only pulses of radiation are radiated in any specific direction and a method to effect same. In the most general terms, this apparatus comprises a partway closed three-dimensional geometric surface having some thickness, but being hollow inside the partway closed portion and having at least one opening through the surface. The surface is shaped so that a desired radiation source can be placed into the hollow portion inside the surface's partway closed portion. The surface is further shaped so that radiation from the desired radiation source can pass from the hollow inside the surface's partway closed portion through the at least one opening through the surface thereby forming a radiation beam. The surface is constructed of material(s) which the wavelength(s) of the radiation from the desired radiation source will not pass through the surface. An axis for the at least partway closed surface is defined which does not intersect the at least one opening through the surface. By rotating the surface about this axis, the radiation beam revolves in space. At any specific location which the radiation beam intersects, a radiation pulse will be sensed. Other surfaces can be employed with the at least partway closed surface to further restrict the radiation pattern of the radiation beam. The surfaces can be rotated by motor or by air turbine means.
