An educational device for use in learning the locations and names of the various states in the United States as well as other information pertinent to each state is disclosed. The device comprises a rectangularly shaped board having a map of the United States on its front surface, a plurality of lamps mounted on the board, one lamp within the boundary of each state and preferably at the state capitol, a battery holder containing a battery, a cartridge receptacle mounted on the board and arranged to selectively connect the battery to each lamp, and a plurality of cartridges adapted to be inserted into the receptacle one at a time to electrically connect one of the lamps to the battery. Each cartridge contains printed matter pertinent to its particular state and is made of translucent material. When inserted into the receptacle, the cartridge is illuminated by a lamp mounted on the bottom of the receptacle and connected to the battery so that the printed matter can be easily read. In one embodiment the receptacle comprises a female card-edge connector having a plurality of pairs of contacts, one contact in each pair connected to the battery and the other contact connected to a different lamp. The cartridge contains a mating male card-edge connector. In another embodiment the receptacle includes a row of microswitches and the cartridges each include a differently positioned button for closing a different microswitch when it is inserted into the receptacle.

Educational device for learning geographical names and locations

Apparatus for automatically supplying food and water to an animal wherein food is introduced into a food ring mounted on a rotatable carousel, the rotation thereof being controlled by a timer. Water is introduced at timed intervals through spray nozzles for both cleaning the food ring, after the animal has eaten, and moisturizing the food prior to being eaten.

Automatic animal feeding apparatus

A self-propelled rolling toy adapted to contain a child therein and rollable from one point to another, the toy including a seat, and a restraint for holding the child in fixed position in the toy while the child controls movement of the toy. Optionally, a ring is provided having a curved wall whereby, when the toy engages a first part thereof, it is automatically rolled back towards a second part thereof.

Self-propelled rolling toy

A smoke detector is battery operated and may employ an ionization chamber and/or an infrared detector. When the alarm circuit is actuated due to the presence of smoke levels above a predetermined value being sensed by the detector, the alarm is actuated and each of the built in lights is illuminated. An auxilliary light energizeable by said detector is adapted to disengage one of said lights electrically and to be energized at the same time the other of said lights is energized.

A powered jointer having a scoring undersurface for forming a stress joint in a wet concrete slab, followed by a reciprocating tamper foot which forms a stress joint while moving rock out of the joint and a smoothing tip following the formation of the stress joint for smoothing out the same, all in a single pass.
