A thermal oxidation tester is shown for determining thermal stability of a fluid, particularly hydrocarbons when subjected to elevated temperatures. The tendency of the heated fluid to oxidize and (1) form deposits on a surface of a heater tube and (2) form solids therein, are both measured at a given flow rate, temperature and time. The measured results are used to determine whether a fluid sample passes or fails the test. Results of the measurements are recorded. The fluid under test is pumped with a low volume, high pressure, single piston pump with only a small fluctuation (pulsation) in output flow.

An apparatus is described to precisely measure the flow rate and automatically perform flow rate check using a drip rate method and/or volumetric method.

Containers used in determining the thermal stability of fuels

A surgical fastener and method for attachment of a soft tissue graft to a bone tunnel is disclosed. The surgical fastener comprises a screw and collar. The screw having a conical head and blunt threads. The collar having a conical shape so as to fit over the conical screw head and containing side wall openings. Secure fixation of a soft tissue graft within a bone tunnel may then be achieve by passing the end(s) of the graft through the side wall openings in the collar and then holding tension on the graft while the screw is driven through the collar into the bone tunnel. With seating of the screw head in the collar the soft tissue graft is be firmly held in place as the screw threads and collar compress the graft into the side walls of the tunnel and the graft tails are captured securely by the interface of the screw head and collar. This surgical fastener offers multiple sites of secure graft fixation to avoid slippage of the graft during healing and lies within the bone tunnel so as to avoid being prominent.

A timer for monitoring the use of hot water in the home to conserve energy is shown. The entire timer apparatus is enclosed inside the hot water control knob so that when the control knob is rotated to turn ON the hot water, the timer is activated. After predetermined time intervals, various visual and audio alarms are given, the alarms thus encouraging the conservation of energy by using less hot water. Also, the timer monitors the number of times the hot water has been used during a given period of time, such as a month or year. The timer, in addition to its primary energy saving function, is ideally suited for use as the hot water control knob of a bathroom shower.
