An electronic sign constructed from a kit for converting a static sign into a dynamic electronic sign comprises a plurality of display modules; a plurality of sign sections each having a front-facing portion and a rear-facing portion, the front facing portion defining a two dimensional array of bays arranged in a plurality of rows along a vertical direction and a plurality of columns along a horizontal direction, each bay configured to receive one of the display modules, the rear-facing portion for coupling to an anchored signage mounting structure; and a plurality of power routing systems, each power routing system having a power input for coupling to a power source and a plurality of power extensions, each power extension for coupling the power source to one of the plurality of display modules.

Sign construction with sectional sign assemblies and installation kit and method of using same

A dynamic electronic sign mounted to an anchored mounting structure having a frontside and a backside, the dynamic electronic sign comprising a plurality of weatherized display modules; a plurality of structural frames for supporting the plurality of weatherized display modules, each structural frame having a back portion for coupling to the frontside of the anchored mounting structure and a front portion defining a plurality of bay members for receiving corresponding ones of the plurality of weatherized display modules; at least one wiring harness including a first end for coupling to a power source mounted backside of the anchored mounting structure and a plurality of power extensions for coupling the power source to the plurality of weatherized display modules.

Sign construction with modular installation and conversion kit for electronic sign structure and method of using same

A modification kit for converting an existing signage mounting structure to an electronic sign generally includes at least one sectional sign assembly including a frame section having a back-facing portion configured to be coupled to the existing signage mounting structure and a front-facing portion including an array of bays, each individual bay having removably mounted therein an LED display module and being prewired with a power routing system; wherein the power routing system includes an input end that branches out to a plurality of output ends, each disposed in one of the bays and each configured to directly couple to one of the LED display modules; a power kit configured to couple the input end of each power routing system to an AC power source; and an installation kit configured to facilitate mounting said back-facing portion to the existing signage mounting structure.

Full height sectional sign assembly and installation kit and method of using same

An electronic sign having at least one sectional sign assembly, the at least one sectional sign assembly having a signage support structure and an associated compound structural frame, wherein the compound structural frame has a unitary structural foam construction with a plurality of display module receiving bays, each configured for removably latching therein a plurality of display modules, the signage support structure and the associated compound structural frame cooperating when secured together to form a natural airflow cooling path extending from the top to the bottom of sectional sign assembly to provide sufficient cooling to the plurality of display modules when removably mounted within their display module receiving bays.

Customized sectional sign assembly kit and method of using kit for construction and installation of same

A large format billboard type electronic sign having an anchored mounting structure, comprises at least one structural frame configured to be mounted to from a front side surface of the anchored mounting structure, and the at least one structural frame defines a plurality of structural bay members configured in adjacent columns for receiving and removably supporting therein a corresponding plurality of weatherized display modules; and at least one preformed wiring harness for routing low voltage power within the plurality of structural bay members, wherein the at least one preformed wiring harness is provided with at least one power introduction node to facilitate providing separate power branches for distributing power between adjacent columns of the structural bay members and at least one structural bay locator node to facilitate providing a low voltage power branch to at least an individual one of said plurality of structural bay members.

A method of converting an existing signage mounting structure to an electronic sign comprises using an installation kit for providing and installing at least one section sign assembly, loaded with a plurality of display modules and having a power routing system with a plurality of individual power extensions extending from a single node to a plurality of display module receiving bays node receptacles, wherein passageway openings at a rear portion of the at least one sectional sign assembly facilitate replacement of individual ones of said plurality of display modules from a rear side of the sign construction, and coupling said single node to a source of power for completing the conversion.

Installation kit and method of using same for sign construction with sectional sign assemblies

A large scale LED display has a number of display panels each having a cable and spacer support structure for a number of LED modules. Adjacent display panels are connected together by a number of seam links that snap onto one cable of one of the display panels and one cable of the adjacent display panel. The cables may include a number of seam link engagement members spaced along the length of the cable and onto which the seam links snap wherein each of the seam link engagement members locates an LED module on the support structure. The LED modules include top and bottom housing sections that snap together, wherein one of the housing sections includes a seat for an electrical connector. The seat locates the connector and a printed circuit assembly within the LED module.

A support for plural display modules each including a rearwardly extending heat sink includes a compound structural frame that defines a frame frontside, a frame backside, and a vertical cooling conduit, the frame backside for mounting the structural frame to a mounting structure, the frame frontside defining a bay member, the bay member defining an opening that couples to the vertical cooling conduit, the bay member configured to receive and support one of the display modules with the heat sink extending through the opening and into the vertical cooling conduit whereby the display module is convectively cooled by the vertical motion of air through the cooling conduit.

Compound structural frame with integrally formed thermal cooling channels and method of using same

A large scale LED display has a cable and rigid link support structure for a number of LED modules. The cable and rigid link support structure is flexible but has sufficient structural integrity to prevent misalignment of the pixel modules. The LED modules are removable from the support structure individually and as a group so as to facilitate repair of the display. The LED modules are rugged so as to withstand harsh outdoor conditions and they provide sufficient luminescence for use in sunlight.

A modification kit for converting an existing signage mounting structure to an electronic sign generally includes a plurality of display modules; a plurality of sign sections each having a front-facing portion and a rear-facing portion, the front facing portion defining a two dimensional array of bays arranged in a plurality of rows along a vertical direction and a plurality of columns along a horizontal direction, each bay configured to receive one of the display modules, the rear-facing portion for mounting to a surface of the existing signage mounting structure; and a plurality of power routing systems, each power routing system having a power input for coupling to a power source and a plurality of power extensions, each power extension for coupling the power source to one of the plurality of display modules. The modification kit when installed provides the electronic sign.

Supports for plural billboard display modules include one or more structural frames mountable to existing billboard poster panels and other planar structural surfaces; each individual structural frame having a sufficient number of frame cutout areas to minimize frame weight to no greater than fifty pounds for hand lifting and mounting to the poster panels, but not such a sufficient number of frame cutout areas to compromise the structural integrity of the structural frame for resisting wind load forces in excess of 100 pounds per square foot when mounted to the poster panels while supporting the plural billboard display modules; and wherein each structural frame is arranged in an array of structural bay members defined by the cutout areas and visual separation features, the visual separation features facilitating the separating of the array into smaller array configurations, wherein the smallest array is a one bay high by one bay wide configuration.

Compound structural frame and method of using same for efficient retrofitting

An out of the box signage kit facilitates in field conversion of a static billboard having an anchored planar mounting structure into a large format billboard type electronic sign that includes a plurality of interchangeable weatherized display modules; a plurality of hand mountable interchangeable structural frames for supporting the plurality of weatherized display modules, each structural frame having a back portion for mounting to a frontside of the anchored planar mounting structure and a front portion defining a plurality of bay members for receiving corresponding ones of said plurality of weatherized display modules; and a plurality of interchangeable wire harnesses, each individual wire harness including a first end for coupling to a power source mounted on a backside of the anchored planar mounting structure, each individual wire harness having a plurality of power extensions for coupling the power source to at least one of the display modules.

Modular installation and conversion kit for electronic sign structure and method of using same

A large format billboard type electronic sign includes at least one structural frame member mounted to a front side of a planar mounting structure that defines a plurality of structural bay members configured for receiving and removably supporting therein a corresponding plurality of weatherized display modules to conceal and protect at least one preformed wiring harness from wind load forces in excess of 100 pounds per square foot and degradation from the effects of ultra-violet sunlight; each individual one of said plurality of structural bay members is provided with a plurality of receptacles to facilitate mechanically and electrically coupling the at least one preformed wiring harness to the plurality of weatherized display modules; and wherein the at least one preformed wiring harness is provided with a plurality of preformed nodes which are dimensioned to be snapped or pressed into position in a wire harness node receptacle forming part of the plurality of receptacles.
