A probe pin (') for electronic testing of semi-conductor elements is provided. The pin contains an electrically conductive core element () made up of a metallic alloy, and an electrically insulating jacket element () which surrounds the core element () over regions thereof. The core element () contains a distal contact section () for electrical contacting to a semi-conductor element. The metallic alloy of the core element contains at least 67% by weight rhodium, 0.1% by weight to 1% by weight zirconium, up to 1% by weight yttrium, and up to 1% by weight cerium. A method for producing a probe pin is also described.

The addition of 0.5 to 30 ppm boron and 0.5 to 20 ppm calcium to iridium and the Zr- and Hf-free alloys thereof and rhodium and the Zr- and Hf-free alloys thereof surprisingly increases the creep rupture strength at high temperatures, in particular around 1,800&#xb0; C.

A metal fiber based on one or several elements from the group of platinum, palladium, rhodium, ruthenium, and iridium with 0 to 30% by weight of one or several additional alloy elements from the group of nickel, cobalt, gold, rhenium, molybdenum, and tungsten, contains 1 to 500 ppm by weight of boron or phosphorus. A non-woven material or netting, in particular for the production of nitrogen oxide or for the production of hydrocyanic acid, is made of such fibers. For the production of fibers based on noble metals having up to 30% by weight of additional alloy metals by drawing the fibers from a melt, the melting point of the metal is reduced by at least 400 &#xb0; C., before drawing of the fibers, by additionally alloying with boron or phosphorus, and the boron or the phosphorus is removed again from the fibers.

A solid body of a metal alloy comprising less than 99% by weight of noble metal and more than 1% by weight of dispersion-strengthening metals is converted for production of a dispersion-strengthened platinum material by at least 90% oxidation of the dispersion-strengthening metals into a dispersion-strengthened platinum material. The dispersion-strengthened platinum material contains a noble metal component of platinum or a platinum alloy amounting to between 95 and 99% by weight and a dispersion-strengthening agent. The noble metal component includes at least 55% by weight Pt, 0 to 30% by weight Rh, 0 to 30% by weight Au, and 0 to 40% by weight Pd. The remaining proportion by mass of more than 1% by weight is a dispersion-strengthening agent, which contains at least one metal oxidized at least 90% by weight with oxygen, the metal being selected from the group of Ce, Zr, Sc, and Y.

An iridium alloy is produced having at least 85% by weight iridium, at least 0.005% by weight molybdenum, 0.001 to 0.6% by weight hafnium and, optionally, rhenium, the sum of molybdenum and hafnium being between 0.002 and 1.2% by weight. The iridium alloy is produced in a process, in which an IrMo and an IrHf master alloy, respectively, are created in an electric arc and immersed into an iridium melt, optionally together with Re.

A wire, strip or reshaped part is produced from an alloy based on platinum, palladium or a mixture of platinum and palladium and hardened by oxide dispersion. The wire, strip or reshaped part cross-section exhibits a peripheral zone in which at least one relatively easily volatilized oxide generator is depleted by at least 25%. In addition, a process is provided for production of such a wire, strip or reshaped part, in which a porous skin is produced thermally on the wire, strip or reshaped part, and the porous skin is compacted by conversion into a soft or impermeable skin.

An electrode system with a current feedthrough through a ceramic discharge vessel is provided which, on one hand, increases the visible output of lamps and, on the other hand, allows smaller dimensions. For this purpose, the current feedthrough is made of rhenium or a platinum-group metal. In this way, improved color reproduction is also achievable. In preferred embodiments: (a) the current feedthrough is made of rhenium or a rhenium alloy or a platinum-group metal or a platinum-group metal alloy and the current feedthrough is brazed flush in the discharge vessel, (b) the discharge vessel has no shaft, and/or (3) the current feedthrough is in the form of one or more joined spheres.

A tube target for cathode sputtering installations, and a process for producing a cylindrical hollow body for such a tube target and its use. The problem of providing a simple and low-cost process for producing a cylindrical hollow body for a tube target and of providing a cylindrical hollow body with a uniform, fine-grained structure is solved by the cylindrical hollow body being produced by centrifugal casting of a melt.

Tube target

A composite membrane is provided having a flexible metallic substrate for separation of hydrogen from gas mixtures, which achieves a separation ratio of hydrogen to nitrogen of greater than about 4,000 at operating temperatures higher than 300&deg; C. The composite membrane has a layer system arranged on at least one surface of the substrate, the layer system having a rigid, non-self-supporting, nonmetallic inorganic diffusion barrier layer adjacent the substrate, and at least one hydrogen-permeable, nonporous, metallic membrane on the side of the barrier facing away from the substrate. A method for production of such a composite membrane is also provided in which the diffusion barrier layer adjoining the membrane layer is formed by PVD, CVD, sol-gel process, or sintering-on powder particles, and the membrane layer is electrodeposited on the diffusion barrier layer.

Composite membrane and production method therefor

A hollow cylindrical target for a cathode sputtering unit with a hollow cylindrical sputtering material and a target holder is disclosed. The sputtering material has an annular cross section and concentrically surrounds a longitudinal segment of the target holder. The target holder extends out of the sputtering material at least at one end of the target to allow connection to the cathode sputtering unit. The at least one part of the target holder that extends from the sputtering material is a single part that can be detached from the target by at least one screw fitting.

Hollow cylindrical cathode sputtering target and process for producing it

A process for producing a tube target for cathode sputtering plants, in which the tube target is formed from a metallic inner tube (target holder) made of a first material with a first melting point of T &gE;900 K and a metallic outer tube (target) that concentrically surrounds the inner tube and that is made of a second material with a second melting point of T &lE;800 K. The inside diameter of the outer tube and the outside diameter of the inner tube are proportioned in such a way that the two tubes fit together tightly and are mechanically firmly joined. The outer tube is formed by casting the second material in a molten state in a heated, vertical, cylindrical permanent mold, which has a heated mandrel that constitutes the inner tube. After a space between the mold and the inner tube has been filled with the molten second material, a first thermal gradient develops between the inner tube and the mold, a second thermal gradient develops between the bottom and the top of the mold, and the outer tube is simultaneously cooled from the inside to the outside and from the bottom to the top.

Process for producing a tube-shaped cathode sputtering target

A gold-free platinum material that is dispersion-strengthened by small, finely dispersed particles of base metal oxide. The base metal is either 0.01-0.5 wt. % Sc or a mixture/alloy of Sc and at least one metal from the group consisting of Zr, Y, and Ce with a total base metal content of 0.05-0.5 wt. %.

A process and a device for reducing the nitrous oxide which is formed during the catalytic combustion of ammonia and oxygen to form nitrogen oxides. A catalyst system including at least one first catalyst mesh element and at least one second catalyst mesh element is used for the catalytic combustion of ammonia and oxygen to form nitrogen oxides, where the minimum of one first catalyst mesh element is a platinum-rhodium mesh and the minimum of one second, downstream catalyst mesh element is a palladium-rhodium mesh with 2-4 wt. % of rhodium.
