Uniqueviruses (SINV) have been identified and their genome sequenced. Oligonucleotide primers have been developed using the isolated nucleic acid sequences of the SINV. The viruses are used as a biocontrol agent for control of fire ants.

An attractant composition has been discovered for the control of multiple species of pest arthropods, particularly multiple species of pest ants. The composition, which includes a sugar and a salt or base, and water, attracts both oil-loving and sweet-loving ants and is especially useful with water soluble or suspendable toxicants.

Ant bait attractive to multiple species of ants

A shock-absorbing tow bar coupler is disclosed. The tow bar coupler includes a housing dimensioned and configured at forward end to engage a trolley of a power and free conveyor. At its rearward end, a clevis is disposed within and rotatably attached to the housing. A hitch dimensioned and configured to engage a tow bar is rotatably attached to the clevis. The tow bar hitch provides a resilient, shock-absorbing attachment between the trolley and the tow bar.

A method has been discovered for the control of arthropod pests which comprises treating the pest with an effective amount of selected fluorocarbons.

Method for the control of insects

A nose mounted obscuration fuze adapted to produce a near surface burst w the fuze approaches or starts to penetrate a target. The nose of the fuze is provided with a pair of relatively broad surfaces, one of which transmits light from a light source across an air gap forming a sensing area to a light detector in the other broad face of the sensor. The light transmission is measured between the two faces, and any significant change in light transmission through the air gap, such as when the fuze penetrates snow, activates the fuze.
