A system and method for vacuum bag assembly fabrication via the vacuum bag method which reduces the amount of trapped air. The inventive system includes a chamber adapted to contain a vacuum bag and first and second evacuating mechanisms. The first evacuating mechanism serves to evacuate the bag and vent to atmosphere. The second evacuating mechanism serves to evacuate and vent the chamber to atmosphere. Thus, generally, the inventive method includes the steps of placing a vacuum bag lay up in an air tight chamber; and evacuating the vacuum bag lay up and the air tight chamber at the same time. In practice, the assembly would consist of at least two components and a heat curable composition. The components can be parts to be bonded together or layers of cloth to be made into a laminate. In this case, the heat curable composition would be a catalyzed adhesive or resin.

System and method for vacuum bag fabrication

A plurality of sensor units are distributed over an area and communicate via a network with a central monitoring unit. The sensor units include sensor arrays that provide them with raw data in response to the presence of selected compounds in the ambient fluid. The raw sensor data is then processed to compute a local profile, which (a) illustrates a change in the compounds in the fluid from their normal state (change detection) , (b) indicates the presence and total concentration of foreign compounds in the fluid (presence detection), or (c) details the composition and concentrations of defined classes or individual species of compounds in the fluid (composition detection). The local profiles from the individual sensor units are then used to compute a spatial and temporal map for the compounds in the fluid. This map can then be used for a variety of purposes including tracking and predicting the flow of compounds through the area, identifying the source of compounds in the area, monitoring abatement, and controlling industrial processes.

Automated network of sensor units for real-time monitoring of compounds

A soldering tool that comprises a selected salt, including Group I and II halides such as potassium chloride, for example, that is transparent to infrared energy. A selected salt is formed into a tool having a specific shape for placement during soldering. The tool is used to position and hold component leads during infrared soldering. The tool is formed into a shape that matches the shape of a component and whose leads are to be soldered. The tool is configured so that it may be disposed over the component so that the tool contacts the leads and causes them to contact pads to which the leads. The tool is reusable in that after showing signs of wear, it may be recycled, reformed, and reused. An infrared soldering method for soldering leads to pads comprises the following steps. The tool is fabricated from a material that is transparent to infrared radiation. The tool formed into a shape that matches the shape of the component and contacts the leads to cause them to contact the pads. The tool is placed over the component so that the tool holds the leads in place. Pressure is applied to the tool to provide force to hold the leads in place on the pads. The component 12 and the tool are then disposed in an inert atmosphere in a infrared reflow soldering machine. The leads are infrared soldered to the pads using the infrared reflow soldering machine.
