In one aspect, an apparatus for measuring a tension force on a net cord of a sports net is disclosed. The apparatus may include a housing configured to connect to a static post. The apparatus may also include a slidable member and attachment members. The attachment members may be configured to engage a portion of the net cord. A resilient member inside the housing may be connected to the slidable member, and an indicator member may be connected to the slidable member within the housing. The slidable member may be configured to move within the housing in response to and by a distance proportional to an amount of tension force on the net cord. The indicator member may be connected to the slidable member such that a portion of the indicator member may be exposed through a slotted opening defined in the housing.

Measuring sports net tension

A device for setting, adjusting, and measuring a force in a system, including a first portion for measuring a system force at a first end of the device and including a measurement means, a second portion for adjusting or setting the system force at a second end of the device and including an adjustment means, a housing where the first portion corresponds to the first end of the housing and the second portion corresponds to the second end of the housing, a resilient means within the measurement means for generating a resistance force, and a visual means for indicating an amount of the system force that is related to the physical position of the adjustment means and the resistance force created by the resilient means.

Device and method for adjusting, measuring, and setting force

A thermal protection system containing several innovative features has been developed with heat pipes embedded in a composite material. The techniques used in the fabrication of the heat pipes permit a smaller radius and a higher use temperature heat pipe than could be manufactured under pervious techniques. The techniques used to embed the heat pipes in a refractory composite material yield a light weight leading edge that is able to tolerate the thermal stresses generated by the difference in thermal expansion between the heat pipes and the composite material. The heat pipes for the leading edge have a 'J-shape', and are placed so that the long leg of the heat pipe alternates between the upper and lower surfaces. A coating is placed on the heat pipes that protects the heat pipe from oxidation and reaction with the components of the composite material. A compliant layer is placed between the heat pipes and the composite material to reduce the effects of the thermal stresses that arise due to the mismatch of thermal expansion between the heat pipe and the composite material. A gap forming layer may also be placed between the heat pipe and the composite material so that after it is removed or shrunk, a small gap will be left that will reduce thermal stresses.
