A system for measuring concentration of water vapor in a gas includes a pressure sensor configured to sense a static pressure of the gas and a differential pressure sensor configured to sense a differential pressure. A temperature sensor senses a temperature of the gas. Circuitry estimates determines a concentration of water vapor in the gas based upon the measured pressures and temperature.

Correction of natural gas flow calculations for the effects of water vapor

A process variable transmitter is configured as a flowmeter for measuring flow of a process fluid through a conduit. The transmitter includes a pitot tube extending into the conduit which creates a differential pressure in the process fluid due to flow of the process fluid. An upstream process variable sensor is mounted on the pitot tube and coupled to the flow of process fluid to sense an upstream process variable of the process fluid. A downstream process variable sensor is mounted on the pitot tube downstream of the upstream process variable sensor and coupled to the flow of process fluid to sense a downstream process variable of the process fluid. Measurement circuitry determines the flow of the process fluid based upon the upstream process variable and the downstream process variable.

A steam quality meter includes a pipe with an inlet and an outlet. A rod is located within the pipe between the inlet and the outlet. The rod defines an annular flow passage between an outer wall of the rod and an inner wall of the pipe. A mixing device is located within the pipe between the inlet and an upstream end of the rod. Spaced sensors are located within the annular flow passage. Each sensor is configured to sense capacitance and/or impedance of steam flowing through the annular flow passage.

Steam quality meter and measurement method

A sensor probe comprises a tube, a sensor element and an absorber mass. The tube is for placement in a process fluid flow within a fluid conduit and comprises a first end for coupling to the fluid conduit and a second end for insertion into the process fluid flow. The sensor element is in communication with the tube. The absorber mass is coupled to the tube and is configured to dampen vibration of the tube when inserted in the process fluid flow.

A differential pressure flow measurement system includes a pressure sensor coupled to measurement circuitry. An elongate probe is configured to be inserted into a conduit which carries a flow of process fluid. The pressure sensor senses a pressure difference in the fluid flow generated as the fluid flows past the probe. A vortex shedding stabilizer is positioned proximate the elongate probe and in the flow of process fluid. The vortex shedding stabilizer is configured to stabilize vortex shedding in the flow of fluid proximate the elongate probe.

A process fluid flow device includes a power supply module, a process communication module, a processor and measurement circuitry. The process communication circuitry is coupled to the power supply module and to the processor. The measurement circuitry is operably coupleable to plurality of process variable sensors to obtain an indication of differential pressure, static pressure and process fluid temperature. The processor is configured to compute process fluid mass flow, and to use the static pressure and process fluid temperature to obtain an energy per unit mass value relative to the process fluid and to provide an energy flow indication.

Multivariable process fluid flow device with energy flow calculation

A system comprises a differential pressure sensor, a process pressure sensor, a temperature sensor and a microprocessor. The differential pressure sensor is positioned to sense differential pressure along a fluid flow, where fluid properties of the fluid flow have first and second phases separated along a transition curve. The process pressure sensor is positioned to sense a pressure of the fluid flow, and the temperature sensor is positioned to sense a temperature of the fluid flow. The microprocessor is coupled to the temperature sensor and the pressure sensor to determine a flow rate, and the microprocessor generates a diagnostic based on the process pressure and the temperature as compared to the transition curve.

A system to configure a field device of the type used to calculate a flow of a process fluid. The system includes a flow repository comprising a list of process fluids with which the field device can be used, fluid equation data which provides information related to fluid equations for calculating fluid parameters of the process fluid, a list of primary elements, and primary element equation data which provides information related to primary element equations and fluid equations for calculating flow of the process fluid. The flow application is adapted to retrieve data from the flow repository and to generate information which is used by field device to calculate the flow of the process fluid.

A process fluid flow device includes process communication circuitry, a processor, and measurement circuitry. The process communication circuitry is configured to communicate with at least one additional process device. The processor is coupled to the process communication circuitry and is configured to execute instructions to provide a plurality of cycles, wherein each cycle includes a number of flow-related calculations. Measurement circuitry is operably coupleable to a plurality of process variable sensors to obtain an indication of differential pressure during each cycle, and to obtain static pressure, and process fluid temperature. The processor is configured to compute a process fluid flow value using a current differential pressure sensor indication and at least one flow-related value calculated during a previous cycle. The process communication circuitry communicates the computed process fluid flow value to the at least one additional process device.

Multivariable process fluid flow device with fast response flow calculation

Methods and systems for assessing transmitter electronics in an industrial process control system comprise generating a process condition reference equation signal, a process condition approximation equation signal, and an accuracy output signal. The process condition reference equation signal is generated using a process condition reference equation and process control inputs. The process condition approximation equation signal is generated using a process condition approximation equation that approximates the reference equation using the process control inputs, and approximation equation coefficients based on the approximation equation and the process control inputs. The approximation equation signal is compared to the reference equation signal at a control room workstation such that the industrial process control system can be adjusted. In one embodiment, the approximation equation coefficients are adjusted and transmitted to process transmitter electronics over a control network. In another embodiment, a parameter of the industrial process control system, such as a primary element or transmitter, is adjusted.

Process control system having on-line and off-line test calculation for industrial process transmitters

A method of providing configuration information for a process fluid flow device is provided. The method includes receiving a process fluid selection and providing at least one selectable fluid property relative to the selected process fluid and receiving at least one process fluid property selection. Information relative to a primary element is also received. Reception of a reset relative to the process fluid selection, the process fluid property, and the primary element selection, clears the respective information. The configuration information is provided to a process fluid flow device based on the process fluid selection, the process fluid property and the primary element information.

Configuration of a multivariable process fluid flow device

A process variable transmitter with diagnostics based on power spectral density (PSD) analysis of a process variable sensor signal is provided. In one embodiment, the process variable transmitter is a pressure transmitter and the diagnostics are used to diagnose impulse line obstruction or impending obstruction. Other diagnostics are also useful such as diagnosing primary element degradation. The sensor signal is digitized and the digitized signal is transferred into the frequency domain. The power of the frequencies on the sensor signal is examined to provide the enhanced diagnostics. In one aspect diagnostics are generated directly with the sensor PSD data. In another aspect, the PSD analysis is used to tune a filter in order to enhance traditional diagnostic algorithms.

A device comprises a sensor tube for placement in a process flow and a flow-modifying element. The flow-modifying element is formed on the sensor tube, in order to reduce flow-induced vibrations by reducing coherent vortex shedding in the process flow.
