An integrated, unitary battery pack may be formed and used as part of the structural support for a vehicle frame. The unitary battery pack includes arrays cells having all positive and negative electrical terminals aligned in-plane on a common face of the product assembly. The unitary battery pack includes cooling components for passively or actively cooling the cell arrays. The unitary battery pack is encased in a potting material that allows that forms part of the structure support for the unitary battery pack. The unitary batter pack may be integrated into the vehicle with or without additional support structures.

Integrated energy storage system

A release apparatus for receiving an ocean alkalinity product from an Ocean Alkalinity Enhancement (OAE) system (or other alkalinity source), and for releasing the alkalinity into an ocean at a maximum safe delivery rate to facilitate atmospheric COreduction and mitigate ocean acidification. The release apparatus includes a diffuser having a plenum chamber defining exit ports, a flow control mechanism that controls delivery of the ocean alkalinity product through the exit port(s) into an outfall region (i.e., an ocean region surrounding the diffuser), sensors for measuring seawater parameters in the outfall region, and a controller configured to control an operating (actuation) state of the flow control device (e.g., by way of generating and transmitting a flow control signal) in accordance with the measured seawater parameters. The plenum chamber is anchored at an outfall location and is maintained at a constant depth with the exit ports aimed toward the ocean surface.

Ocean alkalinity release apparatus and method

An ocean alkalinity enhancement (OAE) system that reduces atmospheric COand mitigates ocean acidification by electrochemically processing feedstock solution (e.g., seawater or brine) to generate an alkalinity product that is then supplied to the ocean. The OAE system includes a base-generating device and a control circuit disposed within a modular system housing deployed near a salt feedstock. The base-generating device (e.g., a bipolar electrodialysis (BPED) system) generates a base substance that is then used to generate the ocean alkalinity product. The control circuit controls the base-generating device such that the alkalinity product is supplied to the ocean only when (1) sufficient low/zero-carbon electricity is available, (2) it is safe to operate the base-generating device, and (3) supplying the alkalinity product will not endanger sea life. Modified BPED systems include features that facilitate autonomous system operations including enhanced maintenance cycle operations and a reduced reliance on external fresh water sources.

Ocean alkalinity system and method for capturing atmospheric carbon dioxide

A tool comprises a distal portion and a proximal portion spaced apart by a shaft along a longitudinal axis. The distal portion includes a distal link and the proximal portion including a proximal link. The distal link and proximal link form a pair of links. The tool also comprises a set of tension load bearing members connecting the proximal link and the distal link and terminating at the links of the pair to transfer movement therebetween. The tool also comprises an articulation lock positioned between the distal portion and the proximal portion and configured to allow through passage of the set of tension load bearing members. The articulation lock is adjustable between an unlocked configuration in which the proximal and distal links are moveable and a locked configuration in which an effective length of the shaft is increased, creating a force to impede movement of the proximal and distal links.

Surgical instrument

A surgical instrument includes a proximal end and a distal end, a first linking member coupled to a user interface positioned near the proximal end, a second linking member coupled to a clamp tool positioned near the distal end, an elongate shaft extending between the first and second linking members, and at least one cable set extending through the elongate shaft and coupling the first and second linking members such that movement of the first linking member causes corresponding movement in the second linking member. The user interface includes a handle having a first part connected to the first linking member, a second part pivotably connected to the first part, and a rotational element connected to the handle. The first linking member includes a first articulating portion and the second linking member includes a second articulating portion including a plurality of discrete links defining a plurality of lumens.

An energy storage pack includes a coolant inlet manifold, a coolant outlet manifold, and a plurality of thermal-exchange tubes extending between the coolant inlet manifold and the coolant outlet manifold to exchange heat between coolant passing through the plurality of thermal-exchange tubes and a plurality of battery cells mounted adjacent to and among the plurality of thermal-exchange tubes within the energy storage pack. In one embodiment, at least one of coolant inlet manifold and the coolant outlet manifold includes a plurality of thermal-exchange tube terminating structures and a plurality of hose segments intercoupling the plurality of thermal-exchange tube terminating structures. The energy storage pack may further include a coolant inlet opening located on the coolant inlet manifold and a coolant outlet opening located on the coolant outlet manifold.

An enhanced multi object potting fixture for exposure to a curing modality that sets an adhesive includes a fixture housing supporting a plurality of objects, the fixture housing having a wall defining a plurality of bonding wells with each the bonding well receiving a first portion of one of the objects, each the bonding well including an aperture in the wall proximate the first portion wherein each bonding well includes a target zone for selective cure of the adhesive to inhibit the adhesive from exiting the aperture; and a fixture enhancement structure integrated into the wall concentrating the curing modality in each the target zone.

Embedded optics in modular assemblies

The invention provides surgical or diagnostic tools and associated methods that offer user control for operating remotely within regions of the body. These tools include a proximally-located actuator for the operation of a distal end effector, as well as proximally-located actuators for articulational and rotational movements of the end effector. Control mechanisms and methods refine operator control of end effector actuation and of these articulational and rotational movements. An articulation lock allows the fixing and releasing of both neutral and articulated configurations of the tool and of consequent placement of the end effector. The tool may also include other features. A multi-state ratchet for end effector actuation provides enablement-disablement options with tactile feedback. A force limiter mechanism protects the end effector and manipulated objects from the harm of potentially excessive force applied by the operator. A rotation lock provides for enablement and disablement of rotatability of the end effector.

A method includes: assembling a thermal-exchange tube in a module housing for an energy storage pack; assembling cells in the module housing, wherein the thermal-exchange tube runs between rows of the cells; applying an adhesive that affixes the cells and the thermal-exchange tube to the module housing; curing a first portion of the adhesive by radiation, wherein a second portion of the adhesive is shielded from the radiation by the cells or the thermal-exchange tube; and curing at least the second portion of the adhesive by a chemical cure mechanism.

The invention provides surgical or diagnostic tools and associated methods that offer improved user control for operating remotely within regions of the body, and improved methods of assembling the tools. In some embodiments these tools include a proximally-located actuator for the operation of a distal end effector, as well as proximally-located actuators for articulational and rotational movements of the end effector. Control mechanisms and methods refine operator control of end effector actuation and of these articulational and rotational movements. The articulation mechanisms comprise pairs of links, one link distal and the other proximal, configured such that movement of a proximal link is transferred to the distal link by way of tension bearing members. Embodiments of the invention include a guide for such tension bearing members that facilitates assembly of the tool. Embodiments also include improved methods for attaching tension bearing members to the links. The inventions disclosed herein may also be used with articulating devices outside of the surgical and diagnostic fields.
