A negative pressure wound therapy device can include a negative pressure source configured to be connected, via a fluid flow path, to a wound, a valve positioned in the fluid flow path and configured to, in an open state, permit supply of negative pressure from the negative pressure source upstream of the valve and, in a closed state, block supply of negative pressure from the negative pressure source upstream of the valve, a flow restrictor positioned in the fluid flow path, and a pressure sensor configured to measure a pressure differential across the flow restrictor. The device can include control circuitry configured to, in a normal operational mode, cause the valve to be in the open state and, in a test mode, perform at least one of a leak test, a flow test, or an excessive pressure test.

A negative pressure wound therapy system can include a reduced pressure wound therapy device and a wound therapy monitoring device configured to emit an indication when it detects that at least one parameter associated with the provision of negative pressure wound therapy is outside an operational range. The wound therapy monitoring device can operate in a low power mode in which the at least one parameter is periodically monitored. The reduced pressure wound therapy device can be configured to detect the indication and selectively generate an alarm. In some cases, the wound therapy monitoring device can be disposed in a wound or in a fluidic connector connecting the reduced pressure wound therapy device to the wound.

Systems and methods for monitoring essential performance of wound therapy

A negative pressure source can be fluidically connected to the wound dressing, the wound dressing can be positioned to cover at least a portion of the wound, and the negative pressure source can be controlled to supply negative pressure to the wound via the fluid flow path. An actuator of the negative pressure source can be controlled to operate in a dual mode by transitioning between a proportional-integral (PI) control or proportional-integral-derivative (PID) control and a pulsed control. Stalling of the actuator can be prevented, and therapy can be provided without interruptions.

Negative pressure wound therapy systems, apparatuses, and methods for operating the systems and apparatuses are disclosed. In some cases, the system can include a dressing having electronic circuitry that wirelessly communicates a dressing identifier and/or other dressing information to a controller of a pump assembly of the system. The controller can automatically modify one or more operational parameters of the pump assembly based on the dressing identifier and/or other dressing information wirelessly communicated. Duration of time over which the dressing has been in use can be monitored and provision of therapy by the pump assembly can be disabled responsive to a determination that the duration of time has reached operational lifetime of the dressing.

A test meter and related method for monitoring the condition of a backlight battery of the meter in which the meter includes a housing, controller, display with backlight and a battery monitoring circuit. An off-time of the meter is measured and compared to a predetermined recovery time of the backlight battery. If the off-time of the meter is greater than the predetermined recovery time of the backlight battery, a voltage of the backlight battery is measured at a predetermined time after energizing the backlight and compared to a first predetermined voltage in excess of a threshold voltage of the backlight battery. If the measured voltage is less than the first predetermined voltage, the measured voltage is compared to a second predetermined voltage between the first predetermined voltage and the threshold voltage. A battery depletion warning is displayed if the measured voltage is less than the second predetermined voltage.

A physiological measurement system includes a biosensor providing a signal for a fluid sample. A processor determines a physiological parameter in the form of an analyte concentration using the signal from the biosensor. A network interface conveys data between the processor and a social network. The processor can transmit a query for analyte-data-request records to the social network, receive an indication of an analyte-data-request record from the social network, and transmit the determined analyte data or physiologic data to the social network in response to the indication. The processor can alternatively retrieve user credentials from a storage device, transmit the credentials and the analyte data to the social network, retrieve from the social network different-user response data corresponding to the transmission, and present an indication of the response data. Methods for processing analyte or physiologic data are also described. Various methods include transmitting credentials and the stored analyte or physiologic data to the social network.

A system for determining usability of an analytical test strip includes a sample chamber to receive a fluid sample, a reagent in the sample chamber having a moisture-varying impedance, and two detection electrodes contacting the reagent. A test meter applies an AC waveform across the reagent via the detection electrodes while measuring an impedance of the reagent. A processor automatically determines whether the measured impedance of the reagent meets a dryness criterion. The meter includes a housing, a strip port connector, an impedance measurement circuit and the processor. A method for determining usability of a strip inserted in a hand held meter includes applying an AC waveform across a reagent of the strip and measuring a first electrical signal, and determining whether the strip meets the dryness criterion based on the first electrical signal. The test strip and ways of determining an analyte are also described.

Determining usability of analytical test strip

A hand-held test meter includes an electrically and thermally insulating case ('ETIC') with an outwardly facing surface, a test meter electrical component ('TMEC') with a thermal contact portion disposed within the electrically-insulating case, and at least one thermal channel. The thermal channel includes a proximal contact portion with a proximal contact surface, a distal contact portion with a distal surface, and a channel portion connecting the proximal contact portion and the distal contact portion. The thermal channel is integrated with the ETIC such that the thermal channel extends through the ETIC from the outwardly facing surface and to the thermal contact portion of the TMEC. The extension is such that the proximal contact surface of the thermal channel is outside of the ETIC and the distal surface of the thermal channel is in contact with the thermal contact portion of the TMEC. The thermal channel is thermally conductive and electrically-insulating.

A hand-held test meter for use with an electrochemical-based analytical test strip in the determination of an analyte in a bodily fluid sample includes a housing, a micro-controller disposed in the housing, a test strip simulation passive circuit block disposed in the housing, and a strip port connector ('SPC') configured to operationally receive an electrochemical-based analytical test. The test strip simulation passive circuit block is in electrical communication with the SPC and the SPC is configured in electrical communication with the micro-controller. In addition, the test strip simulation passive circuit block is configured to simulate insertion of an electrochemical-based analytical test strip into the SPC and also to simulate application of a bodily fluid sample to an electrochemical-based analytical test strip inserted into the SPC by presenting one or both of (i) an alternating current (AC) load to SPC; and (ii) a direct current (DC) load to the SPC.

A method and system are provided to determine fill sufficiency of a biosensor test chamber by determining capacitance of the test chamber in which an electrochemical reaction is initiated in the test chamber and an oscillating voltage of a predetermined frequency is applied to the chamber. A phase angle between a current output and the oscillating voltage from the chamber is determined and the capacitance is calculated based on a product of the current output and a sine of the phase angle divided by a product of two times pi times the frequency and the voltage.
