A welding power supply having an adjustable cover is disclosed. The welding power supply includes an enclosure housing an engine, a porous radiator thermally coupled to the engine, and a fan configured to propel air through the radiator. A ventilation opening is in fluid communication with the fan and radiator. The fan is configured to move heated air along an air path and out of the ventilation opening. The air may be heated by the welding power supply components (e.g. engine, radiator, charge air cooler, oil cooler, compressor, generator, weld circuitry, and/or other components), for example. The adjustable cover is positioned over the ventilation when in a fully closed and/or partially open/closed position. The adjustable cover may be moved between fully closed, partially open/closed, and fully open positions. The amount of air that is allowed to exit the enclosure, and the amount of air that is recirculated within the enclosure, may be altered by adjusting the position of the adjustable cover.

Adjustable cover for air recirculation in a power supply

A one-piece generator housing locates and secures the generator stator assembly, rotor bearings, and brush holder, and provides for attachment of the housing assembly to the engine interface. The disclosed one-piece housing completely encloses the stator and rotor assembly of the generator. An embodiment of the one-piece generator housing is applied to welding machine applications that use an in-line engine. With this type of engine, the power take-off (PTO) is normally the engine flywheel, and the variety of engine interfaces to which to mount the generator become more diverse. In an embodiment, the rotor has a flange with integral cooling fan blades that bolts to the flywheel. A shorter adapter is used in order to access the fasteners that attach the rotor shaft to the flywheel. The housing attaches to the adapter using cast-in bosses and bolts.

One-piece generator housing

Apparatus and methods are provided for a welding-type power system that includes an engine configured to drive an electric generator to provide a first power output. An energy storage device to provide a second power output. A controller is configured to receive one or more control signals to provide a total power output to at least one of a welding-type output or an auxiliary type output, determine proportional values for the first power output and the second power output that add up to the total power output based on a power demand signal that indicates a contribution of the first power output and the second power output, control the engine to adjust speed based on the first power output value, and control a connection from the energy storage device to provide the second power output to the welding-type output based on the second power output value.

Methods and apparatus for hybrid welder modes of operation

A welding-type power system that includes an engine configured to drive an electric generator to provide a first power output. In addition to the electric generator, the system includes an energy storage system to provide a second power output. The system includes energy storage devices and charging devices that are used to charge the energy storage devices. A controller is configured to control the charging devices to provide charging power output to the energy storage devices based on the parameters related to the charge level of the energy storage devices. The controller, using data received from sensors and charge measurement devices, determines the respective charge level for each energy storage device; compares the respective charge levels to one or more threshold charge levels; and controls the charging devices to provide a charging power output to the energy storage devices with a charge level that is below a threshold charge level.

Methods and apparatus for battery float charging operation

Apparatus and methods are provided for a welding-type power system that includes an engine comprising a starter battery. An electric generator is turned by the engine. A power bus connects an output of the generator to a welding-type output. A sensor measures a power demand on the power bus. A controller is configured to control the engine to adjust speed in response to a measured power demand on the power bus, and to control a converter to connect the starter battery to output power to the power bus in response to the measured power demand.

Welding systems including a hydraulically driven welding power supply adapted to utilize hydraulic primary power to generate a first welding output for a first welding operation and a second welding output for a second welding operation are provided. Such welding systems may include control circuitry coupled to the hydraulically driven welding power supply and adapted to enable the hydraulically driven welding power supply to provide the first welding output and the second welding output at the same time to enable a first welding operator and a second welding operator to perform the first welding operation and the second welding operation, respectively, at the same time.

Hydraulically driven dual operator welding system and method

An engine driven welder includes a generator configured to provide an electrical output, an engine coupled to the generator, an air compression system coupled to the engine, a first welding system coupled to the generator, and a second welding system. The engine is configured to drive the generator, and the air compression system is configured to provide a pneumatic output. The first welding system is configured to provide a first weld output, and the second welding system is configured to provide a second weld output. The second weld output is independent of the first weld output in an independent mode, and the second weld output is combined with the first weld output as a combined weld output in a parallel mode.

Multi-operator engine driven welder system

Embodiments of a welding power supply include a housing and a diesel engine disposed in the housing and adapted to output a first power output curve and a second power output curve substantially higher than the first power output curve. The welding power supply also includes a controller coupled to the diesel engine and adapted to control the diesel engine to operate along the first power output curve during a low power operation and to control the diesel engine to operate along the second power output curve during a high power operation.

Welding and gouging systems with multiple power settings

A system and method are provided for controlling an internal combustion engine driving a generator/welder or a stand-alone generator. Controlling the engine may include altering the engine speed based upon a detected demand on the generator and/or operating parameters of a welder. For example, the engine speed may be increased based on a detected draw on the generator and/or the operating parameters of the welder. In addition, the engine speed may be automatically decreased to a non-standard idle speed or the engine may be automatically turned off if no demand is detected for a period of time. Additionally, the engine speed may be increased if only frequency-insensitive demands are detected on the generator. Combinations of these and further methods may be executed. Various devices are provided for implementing the above methods.
