A method includes generating location change information of a computing device in accordance with a location resolution level of a reporting approach and sending the location change information to another computing device in accordance with a location reporting frequency of the reporting approach. The method further includes detecting geo-activity change of the computing device and updating the reporting approach based on the geo-activity change to produce an updated location resolution level and an updated location reporting frequency. The method further includes generating further location change information of the computing device in accordance with the updated location resolution level and sending the further location change information to the other computing device in accordance with the updated location reporting frequency.

Communicating location change information in accordance with a reporting approach

A method includes determining to report location change information of a first computing device to a second computing device and sending the location change information to the second computing device utilizing an initial communication approach. The method further includes assigning a priority level of the location change information based on one or more environmental parameters. When the priority level of the location change information is greater than a priority threshold, the method further includes selecting a new communication approach and resending at least a portion of the location change information to the second computing device using the new communication approach.

Communicating location change information

A method and apparatus are provided for automatically detecting the type of replacement fluid loaded by the operator during a therapeutic exchange procedure and to provide a warning alarm if an incorrect fluid is used. After the operator connects the container of replacement fluid to the replacement fluid line of a single-use kit and enters into the controller an identification of the exchange procedure to be performed, the replacement fluid is flowed through a segment of the kit in proximity to a sensor associated with the hardware component that detects the type of fluid flowing through the segment. The controller verifies whether the replacement fluid detected in the segment corresponds to that appropriate for the selected exchange procedure, and notifies the operator in the event that an incorrect replacement fluid has been loaded.

Method and apparatus to verify correct replacement fluid in a therapeutic exchange procedure

Systems and methods for performing a red blood cell exchange procedure are disclosed. In one aspect, the flow rates of a replacement fluid (e.g., red blood cells from a healthy donor) and plasma being flowed to a blood source are calculated based on certain parameters of the procedure that are known, including the flow rate of blood being drawn from the source and the volume of replacement fluid to be used during the procedure. The replacement fluid flow rate and the plasma flow rate are calculated in a way that allows for simultaneous depletion of the supply of replacement fluid and achievement of another prescribed process parameter. The other prescribed process parameter depends on the nature of the procedure, namely whether the fluid volume and hematocrit of the source are to change by the end of the procedure or remain the same.
