This invention relates to the use of vermiculite and layer minerals in general release films.

Release films

A polyester film having an opaque first polyester layer having an optical density greater than 2.0 and a second white polyester layer, wherein the film is made by coextrusion. The opaque first layer preferably contains carbon black. The film is suitable for use as a base for a photographic sheet.

Polyester film

A release film has a polymeric film substrate and a release layer formed from a release composition containing a mixture of a curable silicone resin and a curable polymer. The curable polymer is preferably an ethylenically unsaturated polyurethane resin. The film substrate is preferably polyethylene terephthalate.

Release film

A release film which is a polymeric film coated with a release resin which is a water soluble copolymer containing styrene is disclosed. The release film is especially suitable for receiving a layer(s) of metal for release of the metal flakes. The released metal flakes possess enhanced optical properties.

Release film and method of making thereof

A polymeric film comprises a substrate layer of polymeric material and a coating layer formed from a composition comprising a layer mineral and a cross-linking agent. The coating layer comprises greater than 10% and less than 90% by weight of the layer of the layer mineral and greater than 10% and less than 90% by weight of the layer of a resin derived from the cross-linking agent. The coating layer preferably additionally comprises a copolymer of ethylene with a vinyl monomer. The polymeric film can have oxygen barrier properties, and the layer mineral coating layer exhibits improved adhesion to the polymeric substrate. The polymeric film is particularly suitable for use as a packaging film.

A polymeric film has a polyester substrate layer and a cross-linked adherent layer of an acrylic resin and a phthalate ester. The adherent layer exhibits improved adhesion to the substrate and to a range of subsequently applied layers, such as inks, lacquers, and vinyl chloride polymers.

Polymeric film

A polymeric film comprising a substrate layer of polymeric material having on at least one surface thereof a coating layer comprising vermiculite platelets wherein 50 to 100% by number of the platelets have a particle size in the range 0.5 to 5.0 .mu.m. The film exhibits oxygen barrier properties and is suitable for use as a packaging film.

A release film comprising an oriented film substrate having an abherent surface layer comprising a chain extended polyurethane resin derived from an isocyanate-reactive polydialkyl siloxane. A preferred substrate is a biaxially oriented polyethylene terephthalate film, and the release film is of particular utility in the production of asphalt roofing materials.
