A hand-held, multi-channel pipettor has an electronically controlled motor to reposition pipette tips for different center to center spacing. Each repositionable tip fitting assembly has a cam following pin that is driven by cam tracks in a motor driven roller drum. Stationary ports for the multiple aspiration cylinders are strategically placed to simplify management of flexible tubes leading to the repositionable pipette tip fitting assemblies. The pipettor has a user interface that can be operated conveniently by one hand to reposition pipette tips. It has a pipette tip ejection mechanism with a sinusoidal stripper bar.

A system and methods for addressing unique locations in a matrix. According to some embodiments, the system includes a plurality of uniquely addressable locations. A plurality of virtual columns that include a plurality of serially connected switch elements provide addressable access to the locations. The plurality of switch elements may be one of a plurality of responsive types and responsive to at least one of a plurality of possible switching signal types.

System and methods for addressing a matrix incorporating virtual columns and addressing layers

A memory device is disclosed. The memory device includes, in some embodiments, a plurality of virtual columns that may be addressed by applying an address to a plurality of address layers of the memory device. The virtual columns include addressable elements coupled to the address layers. The addressable elements allow for a data storage element associated with the virtual columns to be accessed for read/write operations when each addressable element receives a particular signal as an input from the address layer to which it is coupled.

A solenoid valve comprises a conduit having first and second ports and a valve seat in the conduit between the ports. A ferro-magnetic valve member is positioned in the conduit between one of the ports in the valve seat which valve member is movable between a closed position wherein the valve member seats against the valve seat and isolates the two ports and an open position wherein the valve member is spaced from the valve seat and allows fluid flow between the ports. The valve also includes a multi-turn coil having an axial passage therethrough which passage is dimensioned to slidably receive the conduit. The valve member is normally biased to one of its two positions in the conduit. However, when the conduit is received in the coil passage and the coil is energized, the electromagnetic field produced by the coil moves the valve member to its other position thereby either opening or closing the valve depending upon the initial state of the valve member. The valve conduit and its contents are separable from the solenoid coil so that the conduit and its contents can be separately handled and sterilized and can be installed in various apparatus equipped with similar solenoid coils for actuating the valve member.
