The invention provides a telephone relay system for responding to instructions from a first party, or caller. The telephone relay system includes a back-end processor. The back-end processor includes a customer care agent interface, a first party interface, and a controller. The back-end processor allows a customer care agent to go on-hook with respect to the first party and to transfer the call to a controller that sends messages and receives instructions from the first party.

A call between a caller using a telephone device for the deaf (TDD), and requiring one or more types of expertise from a calling assistant, and another person, including a TDD user, is connected by automatically prompting the TDD caller for calling information, automatically identifying the expertise needed, including the language being used, selecting a communication assistant (CA) capable of speaking in the language and other expertise, routing the call to the selected CA, and connecting the call.

Multiply accommodated message relaying for hearing impaired callers

A telephone call is received at a relay center for routing to a forward party. A platform at the relay center can detect a call processing event in the relay center during processing of the telephone call. The relay center platform generates a context-dependent message based on the call processing event for review by the communications assistant. The communications assistant reviews and sends the message to a relay party using a message button. The relay center platform can automatically transmit messages to the caller, the forward party, a third party, and the communications assistant based on detected call processing events. The message button condenses responses to commonly occurring processing events discerned during call routing. The platform can automatically enter data determined from call processing into blanks in stored message templates. Such stored message templates can be activated and executed in response to detected call processing events.

Smart messages and smart macros for telecommunications relay service

A call between a caller using a telephone device for the deaf (TDD) using a one of a number of languages and another including a TDD user is connected by automatically prompting the TDD caller for calling information, automatically identifying the language being used, parsing the received calling information in the appropriate language to determine a forward number, selecting a communication assistant (CA) capable of speaking in the language routing the call to the selected CA, and connecting the call. One embodiment involves storing the forward number before routing the call so the selected CA can press a single button to connect the call. According to an embodiment of the invention, the calling information is passed directly to a number of language specific parsers and the successful parser determines the language being used.

One embodiment involves storing the forward number before routing the call so the communications assistant can press a single button to connect the call. Another embodiment entails connecting the call automatically routing the call to the communications assistant.
