Disclosed is an awning which is specifically designed to attach, in a horizontal orientation, above the heads of passengers in a convertible automobile. The occupants may travel with the convertible top down and enjoy a relative cooler temperature and protection from ultraviolet rays. Generally, the screen material used to comprise the awning is of a mesh design, sized and fitted to be usable for providing overhead coverage of the passenger seats on a specific convertible. Varying lengths and widths of the screen material are fabricated for different size automobiles. The awning is supported at the windshield header of the convertible and by two vertically-oriented posts behind the rearmost seats of the convertible. The awning is readily installed on the automobile and may, when not in use, be rolled up and stored within the trunk of the subject convertible.

An improved permanent magnet DC generator includes at least one stator arranged normal to a rotor. Preferably, there are a plurality of stators each having successive strata of windings in a first direction, windings in a second direction, and a core comprising a surrounding sheet of magnetizable material. The windings and core are separated by electrical insulation. The stator may be constructed to include recurring patterns of windings and cores as described above, all windings being formed from a continuous conductive filament. A stator is preferably includes a non-conductive base attachable to the generator by threaded fasteners. The rotor includes a pair of diametrically opposed magnet groups. Within each group, there is a leading magnet, a plurality of central magnets, and a trailing magnet. Individual magnets are arranged such that the forward face of the leading magnet, the outer face of the central magnets, and the rear face of the trailing magnet all expose like poles to the stator. A consistent magnetic orientation is thus imposed upon the stator, and parasitic internal losses are thus avoided. The magnets project rearwardly from the rotor, and partly overlap or surround the motor driving the rotor. This helps stabilize the rotor at high rotational speeds. The rotor is potted in epoxy and banded circumferentially with wire to help retain the magnets in place at high rotational speeds.

An apparatus for loosening and removing sludge and other impurities from the interior of a heat exchanger vessel which may be the secondary side of a nuclear steam generator is disclosed herein. The apparatus generally comprises a nozzle having a first end that is detachably mountable into an access opening such as a sludge lance port in the secondary side of the generator, and a second end that extends into the interior of the secondary side at a 30 degree downward angle relative to the tubesheet in the vessel for minimizing the stresses applied to the heat exchanger tubes, and for uniformly reflecting the pulse back up toward the upper portions of the secondary side. A pulse generator is operably connected to the nozzle which has a controller for controlling the power level of the pulses generated. To further minimize such peak tube stresses, the pulse generator includes a pulse flattener, and the second end of the nozzle is aligned down the main tube lane.

Pressure pulse cleaning apparatus

A process and system for removing sludge deposits from a tube sheet of a steam generator having at least one handhole provided adjacent the tube sheet is disclosed. The process includes the steps of inserting a suction device through the handhole and into an interior region of the steam generator, inserting a reciprocable fluid injection device supporting structure having a reciprocable carriage positioned thereon through the handhole and into a tube lane, within the steam generator adjacent a first side of a plurality of stay rods positioned in the tube lane, securing the supporting structure to at least one of the stay rods, positioning an end of a reciprocable fluid injection device in the carriage, inserting a peripheral fluid injection device through the handhole and into the tube land adjacent an opposing side of the plurality of stay rods to a position diametrically opposed to the handhole, and reciprocating the reciprocable fluid injection device along the tube land while injecting high pressure fluid towards the tube sheet with the reciprocable fluid injection device, injecting high pressure fluid through the peripheral fluid injection device and drawing dislodged sludge deposits from the interior of the steam generator by the suction device.

Nuclear steam generator sludge lance method and apparatus

Both a system and a method for removing sludge and debris from the interior of the secondary side of a nuclear steam generator is disclosed. The method comprises the steps of introducing a sufficient amount of water in the secondary side to submerge at least the tubesheet, generating a succession of shock waves in the water by means of pulses of pressurized gas to create shock waves that loosen the sludge and debris, and vertically flushing the interior of the secondary side by suctioning water off from the bottom portion of the steam generator while simultaneously forcefully spraying water from the top portion of the generator over the bundle of heat exchanger tubes in order to remove the sludge and debris loosened by the shock waves. To conserve the water used in the flushing operation, the water that is suctioned off from the bottom portion of the steam generator is filtered and de-ionized and re-introduced through hoses at the top portion of the generator which forcefully directs water downwardly through the bundle of heat exchanger tubes and against the tubesheet. The invention greatly enhances the effectiveness of pressure pulse, water slap and water cannon cleaning methods in the secondary sides of nuclear steam generators.

A method for loosening and removing sludge and debris from the vessel of a heat exchanger, such as the secondary side of a nuclear steam generator, is disclosed herein. The method generally comprises the steps of providing a sufficient volume of a liquid, such as water, into the steam generator so that the lower portion which includes the tubesheet is submerged, and then generating a succession of pressure pulses within the water from one or more pressure pulse generators wherein each pressure pulse creates shock waves that exert momentary forces throughout the submerged portion of the generator of a magnitude sufficient to loosen the sludge and debris, but safely below the yield and fatigue limits of the heat exchanger tubes and other components within the generator. The pressure pulses commence as soon as a sufficient amount of water is introduced into the steam generator to submerge the tubesheet, and continue all the way through the draining of the steam generator.

Pressure pulse cleaning method

A lamp having a base, a light assembly and wiring therefor includes a terrarium lower bowl of transparent material forming a part of and projecting from the base and terminating in an annular rim to define an open end. The lower bowl is adapted to hold soil material and growing plants. An upper bowl of transparent material is open at its lower end and formed with an inset annular flange bearing against and extending into the lower bowl annular rim with the upper bowl supported upon and forming a continuation of the lower bowl. An annular bead upon the interior of the lower bowl rim is adapted to receive the corresponding externally grooved portion in said flange for securing the upper and lower bowls together. Another method of fastening the bowls together includes a pair of spaced internal latches which extend through apertures adjacent the lower end of the upper bowl with internal portions of said latches adapted to retainingly engage an annular lock flange upon the interior of the lower bowl rim. A wire enclosing support tube is coaxially mounted within the lower bowl and extends to the open end thereof. A wire enclosing tube extension is coaxially mounted within the upper bowl and extends adjacent the lower end thereof for cooperative interlocking registry with the support tube. The wiring for the lamp includes a first wire in the extension tube terminating in a prong at the lower end thereof, and a second wire within the support tube terminating in the socket upon the end thereof for cooperative engagement with said prong connector.
