In one embodiment, a tubular lifting system for lifting a wellbore tubular includes an outer tubular; an inner tubular disposed in the outer tubular; an annular chamber defined between the inner tubular and the outer tubular; and a tubular piston selectively movable in the annular chamber, wherein the wellbore tubular is connected to the tubular piston and movable thereby.

Hydrostatic tubular lifting system

Apparatus and methods for compensating a landing string due to movement of a floating rig platform are provided. In one aspect, a compensation system for use with a landing string is provided. The compensation system includes a slip joint member attachable to the landing string, the slip joint member having an upper portion and a lower portion. The compensation system further includes a first lock assembly configured to connect the upper portion of the slip joint member to a floating rig. Additionally, the compensation system includes a second lock assembly configured to connect the lower portion of the slip joint member to a riser disposed below the floating rig. In another aspect, a method for compensating a landing string due to movement of a floating rig is provided.

Landing string compensator

The present invention generally relates to an apparatus and method for compensating a landing string due to movement of a floating rig platform. In one aspect, a compensation system for use with a landing string is provided. The compensation system includes a slip joint member attachable to the landing string, the slip joint member having an upper portion and a lower portion. The compensation system further includes a first lock assembly configured to connect the upper portion of the slip joint member to a floating rig. Additionally, the compensation system includes a second lock assembly configured to connect the lower portion of the slip joint member to a riser disposed below the floating rig. In another aspect, a method for compensating a landing string due to movement of a floating rig is provided.

A method and system to aid and/or train well control personnel by measuring the actual hydraulic delay and pressure attenuation of operator choke changes during well control operations or simulations. This provides the choke operator with an anticipated drillpipe pressure as soon as the choke is adjusted, accounting for hydraulic delay, pressure attenuation and prior choke adjustments that are currently travelling through the wellbore as well as reflections of the transient pressure waves against the pumps and choke. The technique that is described utilizes only three inputs, and works without knowledge of or inputting data such as well depth, pipe and hole geometry, mud properties, temperature, water depth, land, offshore platform or floating (subsea BOP's) drilling rigs. Further, the system can detect and warn the operator of potential problems based on the results of the real time analysis.

Well control operational and training aid

A method and system to aid and/or train well control personnel by measuring the actual hydraulic delay and pressure attenuation of operator choke changes during well control operations or simulations. A method and apparatus to stop the influx of down hole fluids while drilling utilizing the downhole Supercharger Process including the steps of providing a down hole fluid supercharger tool in he drilling operation; detecting permeable zones at the surface while drilling utilizing the down hole supercharger process; locking the tool into a standard, continuous (non-intermittent) drilling mode; and resuming the supercharger process after the permeable zone has been penetrated. The invention also includes an method that detects permeable zones while utilizing the down hole supercharger process by monitoring pressure fluctuations at the surface, and an apparatus that controls the operation of the down hole supercharger from supercharger cycle to a conventional drilling mode by varying the compression on the tool (weight on bit).

Downhole supercharger process

A tension multiplier jar apparatus which multiplies the tension by a multiple factor using a compressible energizing fluid acting on differential areas to provide greater over-pull to jar objects in the well. There is first included an overall assembly which includes a lowermost anvil and metering sub attached on its upper end to a hammer and compression sub which is secured on its upper end to a multiplier sub which is secured on its upper end to a fourth upper spline sub. In additional embodiments there is provided a spring such as Belleville springs or coiled springs to replace the energizing fluid as well as downward firing tool that can be activated without any external attachment to the wellbore. There is further provided a mechanism for cocking and firing the tool in place of the metering system.

Tension multiplier jar apparatus and method of operation

An apparatus for jarring a portion of drill string lodged within a borehole, by jarring downhole using tension only, including a first member for attaching a first lower end of the apparatus to the upper end of the lodged tool or pipe through a threadable attachment; a second member for attaching a second end of the apparatus to a drill string on its upper end portion; a third anvil or hammer member which is triggered by spring having stored compressional force transferred by tension from the drill string to the apparatus when the drill string is pulled upward. There is also provided an actuator for rapidly releasing the tension force provided by the spring downward onto the stuck pipe in order to provide an impacting, downward force onto the pipe in an effort to dislodge the pipe. There is further provided a slow release mechanism for slowly releasing the tension force stored by the spring in the event the tool is not fired downhole.

Downward energized motion jars

An apparatus for directing 'supercharged,' i.e., high velocity streams of drilling fluid upward around a reduced area between the apparatus and the borehole. These high velocity 'supercharged' streams, by virtue of the Bernoulli effect become very low in static fluid pressure. These high velocity, low pressure streams decrease the hydrostatic pressure at the drill bit and accomplish a more efficient drilling by the bit. What is provided is a main tool body positioned along the drill string intermediate a section of drill pipe and the drill bit. The tool further comprises lower an external body portion which is rotated at a rotational velocity three times slower than the rotation of the velocity of the drill string. There is further provided a fluid jetting and diffuser system allowing the fluid or a portion of the fluid to be jetted out of the wall of the sub at a high velocity exterior to the sub in a reduced area between the sub and wall of the borehole whereby hydrostatic pressure is isolated and the pressure is reduced in that area around the drill bit thus reducing the hydrostatic pressure around the bit, for more efficient drilling. Upon further rotation of the external body portion, a porting system interrupts fluid flow to diffuser ports and allows flow back down into the drill bit area for the necessary washing away of the cuttings as the bit drills into the earth. Simultaneously, the reduced annular area is enlarged, allowing unobstructed passage of drill cuttings.
