Linear induction motor-operated downhole tool

A technique enables control over flow in a wellbore with a flow control system. The flow control system combines a flow reduction mechanism with a flow control device, such as a valve. The flow reduction mechanism comprises a closure member which can be selectively moved between an unactuated and actuated position, allowing relatively greater flow through the flow control device in the unactuated position. The flow reduction mechanism actuates prior to or in conjunction with the flow control device to reduce flow and thus reduce the loading forces that would otherwise act against the flow control mechanism upon closure of the flow control device.

System and method for controlling flow in a wellbore

The present invention provides for a valve to allow injection of fluids into a well or other subterranean facility. The valve comprises a housing and a flow tube assembly disposed in the housing. A restrictor is joined with the flow tube to restrict flow through the flow tube. A seal element also is positioned to selectively prevent production or upward flow of fluids through the valve upon halting injection operations.

A gas lift valve has a flow restrictor, a valve part on one side of the flow restrictor, a flow deflector and a tubular member on another side of the flow restrictor, and a flapper valve on the side of the flow restrictor where the tubular member is located, the flapper valve being adjacent to the tubular member. When fluid flows into the gas lift valve at sufficient pressure, the valve part opens, the fluid flows through the flow restrictor and acts on the flow diverter thereby moving the tubular member and opening the flapper valve. The tubular member extends though the opening the flapper valve covered.

A fluid communication nipple including a tubular mandrel having an interior surface defining an internal bore and a passageway extending substantially lengthwise along a portion of the mandrel. The passageway is defined by an exterior wall section and an interior wall section, wherein the interior wall section extends outward from the interior surface into the bore. When it is desired to establish fluid communication through the passageway between the exterior and interior of the nipple an opening is formed through the internal wall section.

An apparatus that is usable with a subterranean well includes a safety valve assembly and a pressure/temperature sensor. The safety valve assembly is controllable to selectively isolate a formation of a well from the surface of the well. The pressure/temperature sensor is located in the safety valve assembly to measure a pressure/temperature near the safety valve assembly.

A system and method is provided for artificially lifting fluids from a formation. The system utilizes a production control unit having a jet pump assembly and valving to both lift the desired fluids and to provide well control.

System and method for offshore production with well control

In a broad aspect, the invention may include a subsurface safety valve for controlling a fluid flow through a well conduit. The valve may include a housing that has a bore and is disposed within an annulus defined by the space between the well conduit and the housing. The valve may also have a valve closure member that is movable between an open position and a closed position, and adapted to restrict the fluid flow through the bore when in the closed position. The valve may also include a flow tube that is moveably disposed within the housing and adapted to shift the valve closure member between its open and closed positions. The valve may also include a piston that is moveably disposed within a cylinder in the housing and in mechanical communication with the flow tube. The piston may have a first seal disposed adjacent an upper end of the piston, a second seal disposed adjacent a lower end of the piston, and a third seal disposed between the first and second seals. The valve may also have a failsafe passageway in fluid communication with a balance pressure line and a portion of the piston between the first and third seals. The invention may also include a detachable piston arrangement that is balanced to the annulus or the surface.

Subsurface safety valve

A pressure equalizing subsurface safety valve with a fluid injection system is provided. A fluid injection conduit is connected from a source of injection fluid, such as at the earth's surface, to the subsurface safety valve. A fluid flowpath is provided in the safety valve to transmit injection fluid from the fluid injection conduit to a longitudinal bore of the safety valve. The injection fluids are introduced into the longitudinal bore to resist corrosion of or other damage to the safety valve. The fluid may be injected into the longitudinal bore through a single port, or through a plurality of ports. The fluid injection conduit may also be used to equalize pressure above and below a closure member disposed within the safety valve prior to the opening of the closure member.

An annulus vent valve is provided to vent gas or other production fluids from below a packer set within a well in deep-set applications. The valve may broadly include: a body member having a first end, a second end, an outer surface, a longitudinal bore adjacent the second end, and at least one flow port extending from the longitudinal bore to the outer surface; a closure member mounted within the longitudinal bore to control fluid flow therethrough; a mechanism for biasing the closure member to a normally closed position to prevent fluid flow through the longitudinal bore; a closure member actuator disposed for movement within the longitudinal bore to open and close the closure member; a mechanism for biasing the closure member actuator away from the closure member; a piston connected to the closure member actuator and having a first end and a second end; and a gas chamber disposed within the body member and in communication with the second end of the piston.
