Improvements in the construction of postformable laminates are disclosed by the provision of a single high basis weight sheet exhibiting improved saturation and resin pick up characteristics and formed predominantly of hardwood pulp which pulp has been mechanically treated to effectively impart kinking and curling to the individual pulp fibers.

Postforming decorative laminates

Improvements in the construction of postformable laminates are disclosed by the provision of a single high basis weight, high coarseness, high kappa number sheet formed predominantly of softwood pulp, preferably southern loblolly pine, which pulp has been treated in a mechanical device that effectively imparts kinking and curling to the individual pulp fibers. The sheet is intended as a replacement for the highly extensible sheet(s) currently located on the back of the laminate farthest away from the core.

Water-borne alkyd resin compositions are disclosed comprising maleinized fatty acid. Substitution of the aromatic triacid component of the composition with the maleinized fatty acid permits a reduction in the amount of organic cosolvent employed to solubilize the resin in the water. Alkyd resin containing paint formulations also are disclosed.

Solvent-borne alkyd resin compositions are disclosed comprising a high-purity maleinized rosin anhydride. Substitution of the trifunctional acid component of the alkyd resin composition with this rosin anhydride permits a reduction in the viscosity of the resin without adversely affecting the physical properties of the cured film of the resin.

Maleinized rosin containing solvent-borne alkyd resin compositions

Solvent-borne alkyd resin compositions are disclosed comprising a 22-carbon, tall oil fatty acid derived aliphatic anhydride. Substitution of the trifunctional acid component of the alkyd resin composition with a 22-carbon anhydride permits a reduction in the viscosity of the resin without adversely affecting the physical properties of he cured film of the resin.

Anhydride containing solvent-borne alkyd resin compositions

An inhibitor formulation including the product obtained by reacting maleic anhydride or fumaric acid with fatty acids containing unsaturation in the presence of a suitable catalyst, such as iodine, clay, or silica, is disclosed to provide improved corrosion inhibition in oil field equipment and piping over conventional dimer/trimier based inhibitor formulations.
