An ostomy bag has a non-adhesive filter formed by a carbon fabric disc with impermeable layers on the front and back surfaces. The front layer has a central aperture whereas the rear layer is imperforate. The filter is releasably secured to an adhesive area around a vent opening of the bag with the aperture aligned with the opening so that gas can flow into the filter and radially outwards. The filter be peeled off and reversed to block escape of gas from the opening.

Medico-surgical collection bags

A male urine collection device has a short sheath the rear end of which fits over the glans and a short part of the shaft of the penis. The device is of latex rubber and is between 0.6 mm and 1.0 mm thick at its rear end. At its forward end, the device has a outlet tube which is joined to the rear end by a bulbous surge chamber. The rear end of the sheath is everted back over the outlet tube at the mouth of the surge chamber and is self supporting so that, when it is held against the tip of the penis, the rear end can be pushed rearwardly to cause it to revert about the penis. An adhesive band around the rear end of the sheath is protected by a release sheet which can be removed as the sheath reverts about the penis.

Male urine collection devices

A two-part ostomy bag assembly has a patient fitment comprising a plate with an adhesive rear surface adhered on the skin around with stoma. The front surface of the plate is of PVC and non-adhesive. An annular flange with a rear surface of PVC is welded around its inner edge to the plate, leaving its outer edge free. The bag itself is w.c. disposable, having an adhesive disc secured to the inside wall of the bag around its opening which, in use, is secured to the front surface of the flange on the patient fitment.

Medico-surgical collection bag assemblies

A valve for a urine collection bag has a base plate with a valve housing within which a valve member is displaceable. The valve member is hollow and has an aperture that aligns with an aperture in the base plate and bag when the valve member is in its lower position. The valve is opened by squeezing a finger plate on the valve member down towards a lower finger grip on the base plate. In the open position, the valve member can engage a coupling which slots between the arms of a fork projection on the base plate. The valve is closed by squeezing the finger plate up towards an upper finger grip on the base plate.

Valves and urine bags

An adhesive ring assembly for an ostomy bag comprises a circular ring of adhesive around the opening of the bag and protected by two release paper sheets. The release sheets are of siliconized paper and are of an annular shape. Each sheet is folded in half along its diameter so that one half releasably adheres to the adhesive and the second half overlays the first half. The folded edge of one sheet overlaps the folded edge of the other sheet. The release sheets are removed by pulling the edge of each second half parallel to the ring so that each sheet peels away from the adhesive from its folded edge.

Adhesive ring assemblies for collection bags

A wc disposable ostomy bag has a wall formed from an inner layer of polyethylene and an outer layer of polyvinyl alcohol. Two flexible layers of aluminum are located between the inner and outer layers to reduce odor transmission through the wall. The material of the walls may be formed by vapor depositing the aluminum layers on respective faces of the inner and outer layers and then laminating the inner and outer layers together with the aluminum layers facing one another. Alternatively, both aluminum layers may be deposited on the same one of the inner or outer layers with a thin non-metallic layer between them to prevent the aluminum layers having common grain boundaries.

Water closet disposable ostomy bags and materials

A female external urine collection device has a moulded plastics tray that supports an insert or a planar top with an upper surface that contacts the wearer. The upper surface is shaped with an annular wall that engages around the vulva and an opening with a urine-resistant surface within the wall. The opening communicates with an outlet orifice in the tray so that discharge of urine is contained within the wall and flows to the outlet. A longitudinal ridge extends posteriorly of the wall and is located between the buttocks of the user.

Female external urinal device

Sheet material for making a water closet disposable article, such as a bag for body waste products, is unaffected by contact with water of neutral pH, but is degraded on contact with an alkali added to the pan of the water closet. The material may have a central layer of polyvinyl alcohol, an inner layer made up of at least two coatings of a blend of polyvinylidene chloride acrylonitrile copolymer with carboxylated acrylic copolymer, and an outer layer of at least two coatings of carboxylated acrylic acid. A similar sheet can be used to back an absorbent layer of a sanitary article, such as a diaper. In use, an alkaline substance containing triethanolamine and a surfactant, such as sodium dioctyl sulphosuccinate, is added in liquid form to the water closet pan prior to dropping in the bag or other article, so as to raise the pH of the water to about 10.
