A gate valve comprises a valve body, a stem bore which extends through the valve body, a stem which is disposed in the stem bore and which includes a first stem portion that is sealed to the stem bore, a second, smaller diameter stem portion that is sealed to the stem bore, and a gate pocket that is located between the first and second stem portions, and gate which is disposed within the gate pocket between the first and second seats.

A gate valve is disclosed which comprises a valve body which includes a flow bore that extends completely therethrough and a gate cavity that extends partially therethrough and intersects the flow bore, a bonnet which is connected to the valve body over the gate cavity, a gate which is disposed in the gate cavity across the flow bore and includes a transverse opening that extends completely therethrough, a valve stem which includes a first portion that is connected to the gate and a second portion that extends through the gate cavity, a handwheel, and a roller screw assembly which is connected between the handwheel and the second portion of the valve stem and which converts rotation of the handwheel into translation of the valve stem. In this manner, translation of the valve stem raises or lowers the gate to bring the opening into or out of alignment with the flow bore to either open or close the gate valve, respectively.

The present invention is directed to a valve for controlling the flow of fluid through a component which includes a flow conduit extending therethrough. The valve comprises a first closure member for controlling the flow of fluid through the conduit, a second closure member for controlling the flow of fluid through the conduit, and a valve stem which is connected to both the first and second closure members. The stem is responsive to an external force to move the first and second closure members from a closed position, in which the fluid is blocked from flowing through the conduit by both the first and second closure members, to an open position, in which the fluid is permitted to flow through the conduit past both the first and second closure members.

Combination poppet and gate valve

A mechanically energized annular packoff seal cartridge for metal-to-metal sealing with substantially concentrically arranged tubular members, such as the tubular wellhead housing and well casing of an oil and gas well. A tubular pressure responsive energizing mandrel having downwardly converging frusto-conical seal actuating surfaces is of a dimension for entry into the annulus between the wellhead seal bore and the rough outer surface of the well casing. Elastomer seals are carried by the energizing mandrel and establish sealing of the energizing mandrel with the wellhead housing and well casing A pair of soft metal seal rings are carried by the seal cartridge and are forced radially into metal-to-metal sealing with the wellhead housing and the rough outer surface of the well casing respectively by the double tapered seal actuating surfaces responsive to pressure induced downward force on the energizing mandrel. A locking mandrel and the seal actuating mechanism are restrained against actuating movement during running of the seal cartridge by a running tool by shear pins, thus enabling the cartridge to pass through various well equipment. The shear pin of the locking mandrel is sheared by downward force applied by the running tool to lock the seal cartridge within the wellhead housing. The shear pin of the seal actuating mechanism is sheared, after locking of the cartridge to the wellhead housing, by the force of pressure introduced into the wellhead above the seal cartridge which acts to develop a pressure differential across the elastomer seals of the cartridge.

The present invention is directed to a gate valve which in one embodiment comprises a valve body having an internal flow passage which extends between an inlet port and an outlet port; a pair of seats mounted in respective seat pockets formed in the body coaxial with the flow passage; a gate disposed between the seats and having a transverse opening therethrough; and a valve stem threadedly connected to the gate; wherein rotation of the valve stem raises or lowers the gate to bring the opening into or out of alignment with the flow passage to either open or close the gate valve, respectively; and wherein each seat comprises a generally cylindrical body portion having a substantially uniform outer diameter and first and second end faces which are adapted to seal with the gate; whereby each seat may be mounted in its seat pocket with either the first face or the second face adjacent the gate.

Gate valve

A method and apparatus for installing a metal annular seal (54) between the outer rough surface of a casing member (11) which has had a portion thereof cutaway with a remaining portion projecting upwardly from the upper end of a casing head (12). A slip installation tool (18) mounted on the upper end of the casing head (12) carries a slip assembly which includes segmented slips (42), a bushing (22), and a cam member (42). The slip installation tool (18) secures the slips (40) about the outer rough surface of the casing (11) as shown in FIGS. 7 and 8 with bushing (22) acting as a supporting base or foundation to oppose the forces from the camming action because of support from lock down screws (24). After mounting of the slip assembly about the casing (11), the installation tool (18) is removed, and the metal seal (54), formed of a relatively soft metal material, is mounted over the extending end of the casing (11). Positioning of the tubing head (50) on the casing head (12) as shown in FIGS. 14-16 deforms the metal seal (54) into metal-to-metal sealing relation between the outer rough surface of casing (11) and the inner frusto-conical sealing surface (96) of the tubing head (50).

Method and apparatus for sealing between casing and wellhead connector

According to the present invention, there is provided a device for guiding a tool on a string within a blow out prevention ('BOP') stack. In one embodiment, the device includes a top collar connected to a bottom collar by a shroud having a plurality of flexible members which bow outwardly from the collars, wherein the shroud covers a portion of the tool. An energy absorbing bumper is provided above the top collar to absorb structural impact caused by a blow out or other inadvertant pressure in a downhole application.

A wellhead seal assembly for sealing between first and second pipe members comprises an annular elastomeric body having, in cross-section, a generally rectangular shape comprising a first flat radial surface, a second flat radial surface, an inner circumferential surface and an outer circumferential surface; said inner circumferential surface comprises a generally convex portion that extends from an imaginary plane connecting the inner circumferential edge of each of said first radial surface and said second radial surface; said seal assembly further comprises at least one annular, non-metallic spring member in said elastomeric body positioned generally tangentially to the intersection of either of said radial surfaces with said inner circumferential surface.

Seals containing composite non-extrusion springs

A retrieval tool for retrieving a back pressure valve and tree test plug (generally, a check valve) has a spear formed as a solid ring at the bottom with free fingers extending upward. The fingers are resilient and have protrusions adapted to engage a retrieval groove in the check valve. A wedge ring is provided on the tool body to positively lock the fingers in radially outward engagement with the retrieval groove. The wedge ring is fixed to the body by a shear pin so that upon a predetermined axial force the pin shears and releases the wedge ring allowing withdrawal of the tool assembly, if the check valve is stuck in a tubing hanger or coupling.

A test plug for sealing a bore within a tubing hanger comprising an annular plug body having an axial bore extending therethrough, the axial bore forming a tapered annular seat and an enlarged receptacle within the plug body; a plurality of support dogs retractably mounted within corresponding slots formed in the plug body adjacent a lower portion of the receptacle; a mandrel slidably received within the receptacle, the mandrel having a downwardly and outwardly facing cam surface formed on a lower portion thereof; and a stinger having a tapered closure member adapted to be received in the annular seat, a spring for biasing the closure member against the seat and a seal ring for providing a fluid-tight seal between the closure member and the seat; wherein each support dog comprises an inner beveled edge formed on an upper portion thereof which preferably matches the cam surface of the mandrel, such that when the mandrel is set the cam surface will engage the beveled edge and urge the support dogs into an annular recess formed in the tubing hanger to thereby secure the test plug within the tubing hanger; and wherein the mandrel comprises an inwardly extending annular collar and the stinger comprises an outwardly extending ring forming a downwardly facing annular shoulder which overlaps the collar above the closure member, such that the closure member will not seal against the annular seat unless the mandrel is fully set, and the mandrel will release the closure member from the annular seat during retrieval of the test plug to thereby equalize the pressure above and below the test plug.

A sealing assembly (40) for fitting between an upper wellhead connector (12) and a lower wellhead housing or hub 14. Upper wellhead connector (12) has a downwardly facing frusto-conical sealing surface (32) and wellhead housing (14) has an upwardly facing frusto-conical sealing surface (34). Sealing assembly (40) includes a metal ring (42) having annular grooves (58) therein to receive elastomeric sealing elements (60) therein. Elastomeric sealing elements (60) have extending lips (62) for contacting and sealing against adjacent sealing surfaces (32, 34) spaced from opposed frusto-conical surfaces (54, 56) on the metal ring (42) to provide elastomeric seals for the sealing surfaces (32, 34) of wellhead connector (12) and wellhead housing (14).

A wellhead retrieval tool assembly for retrieving a check valve has a spear formed as a solid ring at the bottom with free fingers extending upward. The fingers are resilient and have protrusions adapted to engage a retrieval groove in the check valve.
