An apparatus for attaching a processor and corresponding heat sink to a circuit board includes a board member, a frame member mounted on the board member, a plurality of connector portions on the frame member, and a resilient load member. The resilient load member has a first end moveably connected to one of the connector portions and a second end forcibly connected to another one of the connector portions. A processor socket is mounted on the board member and a processor is seated in the processor socket. Forcible connection of the second end to its connector portion deforms the load member into engagement with the processor and urges the processor into the processor socket. A heat sink is mounted to the frame member and in thermal contact with the processor.

Method and apparatus for attaching a processor and corresponding heat sink to a circuit board

A processor extraction device interacts with a processor to extract the processor from coupling between connectors of the processor and a socket, such as land grid array connectors that are susceptible to damage from dragging or rotational movement during extraction. For instance, adhesive couples the processor to a load plate that closes over the socket to compress the processor in the socket so that the adhesive extracts the processor as the load plate moves from the closed position to an open position distal the socket. As another example, the load plate closed position compresses the processor onto springs that bias the processor out of the socket upon movement of the load plate to the opened position.

System and method for extracting a processor from a socket

A heat sink retention apparatus includes a frame for supporting a heat sink. A plurality of flexible members extend from opposite ends of the frame. Each flexible member includes a retention tab and one of the retention tabs includes a retraction tab. A heat sink is snapped-into the frame by engaging either of the retention tabs and flexing the other retention tab. The retraction tab can be flexed to disengage one of the retention tabs for extracting the heat sink from the frame.

An accessory device for a wireless telephone or handset functions as either a shoulder rest or a stand. The accessory device has a pair of attaching arms with a pair of attaching pins for attaching the device to the rear surface of a handset by inserting the attaching pins into openings on the handset. The attaching arms extend from a body of the device. A sliding arm slides through the body of the device in a continuous action to multiple configurations. When the sliding arm is fully extended to the bottom of the body, the device is in a configuration to operate as a stand. A foot at the bottom of the device provides support to the handset to hold it in a generally upright position. When the sliding arm is extended out the top of the body, the device is in a configuration to operate as a shoulder rest. A user can hold the handset with the attached device between his head and shoulder like a conventional shoulder rest. The device has a locking pin that also extends through the body of the device. When the locking pin is placed in an unlocked position, the sliding arm is free to slide to a different position. When the locking pin is placed in a locked position, ridges on the locking pin press against ridges on the sliding arm and lock the sliding arm in a substantially fixed position.

A surface mount connector that can be used for both single and double-sided PWB's. A telephone may have a printed wiring board with connector access from the bottom of the telephone and keypad activation from the top of the telephone. If a double-sided PWB is used, the connector is mounted to the bottom side of the PWB, while the keypad is mounted to the top of the PWB. The connector faces away from the PWB to provide access from below the telephone. If a single-sided PWB is used, the connector is mounted to the top side of the PWB, so that the keypad can also be mounted to the top side. The connector is placed, with connector access down, into an opening through the PWB. The connector extends down through the opening in the PWB with the leads of the connector remaining on the top side of the PWB. The leads of the connector are secured to pads on the top side of the PWB.

Cordless telephone

The present invention provides a user installable option module which contains upgrade circuitry to add additional functions to a basic telephone. This generic upgrade module is capable of containing different sets of electronic circuitry which perform different functions and have different applications. The option module is user installable, and requires neither shipping the original unit to repair or upgrade, nor does it require trained service personnel to visit the customer site to perform the installation. The user installed option is installed in the base of a basic telephone. After installation, the option module appears to be an integral part of the basic telephone and is not readily visible to the user. The basic telephone also retains its original footprint. The option module is secured to the basic telephone in such a manner that prevents the option module from being damaged when subjected to significant forces.

A SIM contact position tester (100) for verifying the position of SIM card contacts (c1-c8). A printed wiring board (102) is provided with traces (A-D) which correspond to the contacts (c1-c8) of the SIM card reader connector (101) and are configured to mate with the contacts of the SIM card reader connector (101) mounted within the radio telephone. A plurality of light emitting diodes (LED) (106) are coupled to the traces (A-D). The light emitting diodes (106) are configured to provide an indication of the position of the contacts (c1-c8) when the PWB (102) is positioned within the radio telephone. In one embodiment, the LEDs (106) sequentially light up as the printed wiring board (106) is moved into position over the contacts (c1-c8) of the SIM card reader connector (101).

Apparatus to verify position of electrical contacts within a sliding SIM

A housing (100) for a unidirectional microphone (102) is described which has an enclosure (104, 106) for holding the unidirectional microphone. The enclosure has a first plurality of apertures (108, 110, 114) for transmitting acoustic energy to the front and back of the unidirectional microphone. An assembly (116) is movably coupled to the enclosure which, in a first position, facilitates transmission of acoustic energy to both the front and the back of the unidirectional microphone via a first subset of the first plurality of apertures thereby facilitating unidirectional operation. In a second position the assembly inhibits transmission of acoustic energy to the back of the unidirectional microphone by blocking a second subset of the plurality of apertures thereby facilitating omnidirectional operation.
