A system, and a method of using a system, for controlled tool operation. The method includes providing a tool used in a force application such as a such torque application. The tool communicates with a controller which can communicate with the tool, and to a display in communication with the tool and the controller. The controller can be programmed with operational information about a tool operation. Information related to the operational information is displayed to a user during use. Service information including at least information about an amount of force applied during use is recorded and stored in the controller. Also disclosed is a computerized system for controlled tool operation which sends operational instructions to the tool before use and retrieves service information from the tool after use.

An electromechanical wrench has a housing that has a working end and a gripping end, with a driver positioned at the working end, and a handle positioned at the gripping end. The wrench further includes a click wrench emulator mechanism provided at the handle. A method of using an electromechanical wrench to secure a fastener using angular measurement without the need for establishing a zero reference point, and allowing for ratcheting, is also provided. A method of counting the number of fasteners secured by an electromechanical wrench during a wrenching job is further provided.

Electronic torque wrench

An electronic torque wrench has a tubular core with elongated apertures therein which respectively removably receive user interface assembly and power assembly modules, the modules being exposed through openings in a surrounding grip sheath. A workpiece-engaging head is coupled to a beam member which may received in a tapered opening in a shim member received in an end of the tube. A sensor on the beam member is connected by wires extending to the user interface assembly, which in turn has a display device producing a bar graph display indicating the proximity of a measured torque value to a preset torque level.

Ergonomic electronic torque wrench

An electronic torque wrench has inner and outer telescoping housing portions and a battery tray assembly telescopically receivable in the inner housing portion and a bezel assembly receivable in an aperture in the outer housing portion and interconnected with the housing portions and the battery support assembly by a single fastener. The bezel assembly carries torque measuring circuitry including a microcontroller, and a four-key pad including arrow keys for incrementing and decrementing a preset torque level at any time, an on/zero key and a units key for toggling among plural different units of torque measurement. The preset torque level is displayed until torque is applied or a key is pressed and can be changed and displayed at anytime.
