A biocontainer having a first film, the film having an interior and exterior side; articulating elements disposed on or within the first film, the articulating elements comprising at least one a folded hinge, a sealed joint, a thinned pathway, a bowed path, an embedded polymeric or metallic cylindrical fiber or rod; and a second film, optionally comprising articulating elements, joined to the first film, to form a biocontainer having a closed volume, wherein the articulating elements permit the biocontainer to expand and collapse along the articulating elements.

A multilayered film for biocontainers, an abrasion-resistant substrate attached to the interior or the exterior side of the film wherein the substrate is one of a polymeric woven fibrous material or a polymeric non-woven fibrous material, a woven fibrous material or a non-woven fibrous material having metal fibers, a woven fibrous material or a non-woven fibrous material having glass fibers, or a woven fibrous material or a non-woven fibrous material having carbon fibers; a polymer backing to attach the substrate to the film, including one of polyolefins, polyurethanes and nylons; an outer protective layer disposed on the outside of the substrate to encapsulate the substrate; and a gas impermeable layer that includes ethylene vinyl alcohol disposed intermediate to the substrate and the outer protective layer.

Abrasion resistant film for biocontainers

A device for storing, transporting and/or handling a liquid or liquids and methods for using the device are described. The device is suitable for use with sterile or aseptic liquids, particularly with large liquid volumes such as 10-1000 liters or more, and avoids the need for bags, bins and carriers commonly used for storing and transporting large volumes of liquids. The device comprises a coiled tubing. The coiled tubing can be loaded onto a spool to support the coiled tubing. The tubing can be filled, sealed, stored and transported in a more robust manner than previously achieved with bags, bins and carriers.

Device for storing, transporting and/or handling a liquid and method of handling a sterile or aseptic liquid

A biocontainer film enhanced with an abrasion resistant or 'cut-proof' substrate. Such substrates can be combined with current biocontainer materials, via various techniques of embedding, coextrusion or laminating, to maintain the cleanliness and low extractables already validated for biotech manufacturing. The substrate of choice may be constructed from materials known to be more resistant to abrasion and sharp razor type cuts or from materials oriented in such a way to prevent puncture to occur. The new substrate must also be flexible to allow for typical folding as demonstrated by current packaging practices. The new substrate may be constructed from materials other than polymers such as metal, glass or carbon or in combination with polymers. A non-constrained pressure test is also disclosed.

The present invention provides a process for incorporating a wireless device into a plastic container as part of the steps of manufacturing the container. The plastic container can be a flexible plastic bag and are formed of one or more sheets, generally two or more sheets of plastic film or a rigid plastic container such as a tub or tote. The bags are formed by sealing together adjacent edge portions of each film layer. One embodiment of the present invention is to incorporate a wireless device between the edge portions of the film(s) before or during sealing so that the wireless device becomes permanently sealed into the film material but is isolated from both the bag interior and the outside environment. Another embodiment is to incorporate the wireless device onto or into a plastic component that is sealed to the container, such as a nipple or port, so that the wireless device becomes permanently sealed to the container but is isolated from both the container interior and the outside environment.

Wireless enabled bags and containers

The present invention consists of a closed presterilized bag having a disposable mixing element within it, a drive mechanism outside of the bag for rotating the mixing element without voiding sterility and a vortex breaker in the torm of one or more plastic sheet materials that are attached to various inner surfaces of the bag and disrupt the formation of vortices within the bag. Preferably the sheet(s) are formed of the same material as the bag and are sealed to the bag surfaces. More preferably, the sheet(s) extend across a diameter of the bag. Most preferably, the sheet(s) are perforated with one or more slits or openings to allow for good flow and mixing without a vortex being formed.

Disposable vortex breaker for plastic bag

A method for over-molding a tubular filter element, at least at one endthereof, with a thermoplastic end cap. The over-molding method can be used to manufacture easily and cost-effectively a filter cartridge, of good durability, from an unprecedented range of polymeric materials and components. The thermoplastic over-molding method does not require pre-lamination of said end, and can be performed at temperatures and pressures that do not result in undesirable morphological changes in the tubular filtration medium. Exemplary filter cartridges made through the over-molding method comprise a tubular filtration medium interposed between thermoplastic end caps, the thermoplastic material of the end caps infiltrating the tubular filtration medium, thereby creating mechanical interlock zones at the ends thereof.

Thermoplastic injection molding method for capping a tubular filtration medium

The present invention relates to a filter element having a non-porous extrusion laminated strip formed on at least one edge and at least one side of a membrane. The strip is used to provide a means for ensuring a good bond between the filter element and the material into which it is potted. The strip is formed by the use of one or more extrusion heads that apply molten or softened polymer to one or both of the surfaces of the filter in a width and height desired. The strip is then subjected to pressure such as through a nip to at least partially embed the polymer strip into the filter pores so as to create a strong mechanical bond between the strip and the filter element. Additionally, it allows for the simultaneous formation of more than one membrane with the edge lamination at the same time.
