A positive displacement sorter includes a plurality of interconnected parallel slats defining an endless web that travels in a longitudinal direction. The web has upper and lower runs and transition sections between the upper and lower runs. An upper surface of the upper run of the web defining an article-conveying surface. A plurality of pusher shoes travels along at least one of the slats in order to laterally divert articles on the conveying surface. Each of the shoes has a diverting member extending below the conveying surface. A plurality of diverting rails below the conveying surface is capable of engaging the diverting member to cause the associated shoe to travel laterally to divert an article. A plurality of diverters selectively diverts at least one of the diverting members from a non-diverting path extending longitudinally along the sorter to one of the diverting rails in a diverting state. A propulsion system propels the web. The propulsion system includes at least one drive assembly engaging a lower surface of the upper run or an upper surface of the lower run.

Positive displacement sorter

A system and method of manufacturing improved wear ring assemblies and positive pressure shaft seals. The wear ring assemblies are made from stacked layers of flat metal. Different shaped component parts of the wear ring assemblies are cut from various sheets of metal. The component parts are stacked to form different sections of the wear ring assemblies. The stacked component parts are welded or otherwise bound together. The resulting sections of the wear ring assemblies are then assembled to form the annular structure of a full wear ring assembly. The result is a wear ring assembly that is both easy and inexpensive to produce.

Shaft seal assembly and its associated method of manufacture

A chair construction and method for building a chair having selected features are provided. The construction includes a plurality of interchangeable different components including different base assemblies, back assemblies, seats, arms, and chair controls that can be selected to provide different features on a 'customized' chair. The different chair controls are constructed from a selected one of a plurality of interchangeable energy modules and a selected one of a plurality of interchangeable seat support modules. All components include standardized connections for engaging the related components, and further include various mechanisms and designs so that by selecting particular components, a chair having various features and appearances can be provided. For example, the plurality of interchangeable seat support modules includes a non-adjustable seat support module, a seat-angle-adjustable seat support module, and a seat-depth-adjustable seat support module. Also, the plurality of interchangeable chair control modules include a non-lockable energy module, a back lockable energy module, and a multi-position backstop energy module, each connectable to a selected one of the aforementioned seat support modules. The modularity of these components facilitates assembly including on-site assembly, repair, and post-assembly upgrading of the chair. Further, the seat support is connected by removable pivot pins to allow assembly, retrofit and/or modification in the field. The tension adjustment mechanism, the seat height actuator mechanism, and the pivot connections are constructed for durability, performance, assembleability, compactness of design, and to minimize the number of and complexity of parts. The method includes selecting modules from a menu of interconnectable/interchangeable modules to construct a chair control, and further selecting modules from a menu of interchangeable components to construct a chair having selected features.

Modular chair construction and method of assembly

A chair construction and method for building a chair having selected features are provided. Tension adjustment mechanism for chairs

A chair includes a tubular arm support, an armrest, a lateral adjustment mechanism and a vertical height adjustment mechanism. The lateral adjustment mechanism includes a plurality of nested slides. One slide is connected to the vertical height adjustment mechanism. An uppermost slide supports the arm rest. The slides are adjustable laterally with respect to each other to position the armrest with respect to the chair. The vertical height adjustment mechanism includes a tubular liner insertable into the arm support. The liner defines a bore and a plurality of vertically spaced notches or grooves. A latch tube telescopes within the bore of the liner. An upper end of the latch tube is connected to the lateral adjustment mechanism. The latch is pivotally positioned within the latch tube. The latch includes a latch end movable into and out of engagement with the notches. An actuator engages the latch to move it between locked and unlocked positions.
