A bi-directional egress hatch for a passenger aircraft may allow passengers to rapidly and safely exit an overhead cabin of the aircraft onto the main deck, while allowing cabin crew to safely ascend into the overhead cabin if need be. Hatch panels may blend in with overhead bin doors and ceiling panels of the main cabin; the inner portions of the hatch panels (facing the overhead cabin) may include anti-skid portions and graspable handles for descending passengers. The hatch may be easily activated by a passenger with a single motion (or remotely activated, or autodeployed). Once activated, the hatch panels may swing open and a telescoping ladder may deploy from the inner portion to the main deck, remaining rigid once reaching the floor. Similarly, any barriers protecting the ladder from passengers in the overhead cabin may be released, granting access to the telescoping ladder.

Passenger rest compartments may be incorporated into remote areas of an aircraft, either in the overhead crown region or in lower lobe cargo decks. Each passenger rest compartment includes two-way audio communication with the flight deck and non-intrusive non-visual monitoring of the compartments and surrounding environment to determine passenger presence, absence, and general well-being as well as environmental safety. Rest compartments may be integrated into rest cabins in the overhead or lower lobe areas, the rest cabins accessible from the main passenger cabin via an entry vestibule providing dedicated enclosed paths to the overhead and lower cabins. Additional deployable egress hatches may allow passengers to rapidly return to the main deck from the overhead and lower lobe cabins in the event of an emergency. Selected passenger seats (e.g., partitioned or other premium seats) may include private access to passenger rest compartments.

A guidance system for an agriculture platform that is capable of making decisions concerning the platforms direction and velocity regarding the pathway the platform is moving along as well as obstacles in the path of the platform, is provided. The autonomous agricultural platform guidance system and method will make it possible for small scale farming to take up automated mechanical farming practices which are currently only practical for large scale farming thus improving land utilization efficiency while lowering manpower costs dramatically.

An articulated step system for an automotive vehicle includes a step housing attached to the vehicle frame by means of at least one standoff bracket and a tension strut extending generally downwardly from a first end attached to a vehicle body to a second end attached to the step housing. The articulated step has a stowed position generally underlying the body, and a deployed position extending generally outwardly from the body. Movement of the step may be either translational or rotational with respect to the step housing. In one embodiment, the step extends for the full length of the cab of the vehicle, and partially under a load carrying body at the rear of the vehicle.

A vehicle step assembly uses hinged pedestals and attitude links to position step stringers and an attached step beam in a generally horizontal and elevated deployed position, while permitting a space-saving tucked-in stowed position.

It has been learned that moissanite and other synthetic stones, including synthetic moissanite and synthetic diamond, are distinguishable from natural diamonds based on differing electrical conductivities. The present invention, therefore, provides an apparatus and method for determining a gem type based on its electrical conductivity. In particular, an electronic circuit including the gem under test as part of a circuit path is used to measure its electrical conductivity and, therefore, gem type. The onerous task of determining whether a gem is moissanite or synthetic diamond involves providing a high voltage across a gem surface greater than a breakdown voltage, typically greater than,volts, and measuring a minuscule current that flows through the gem. A first and second contact couple the high voltage to the gem under test, where a low impedance detection circuit is used to flag when the contacts are erroneously contacting each other during a measurement. Sampling techniques are employed to avoid false readings based on AC coupled noise and an optional conductive block with holes or cavities is used to retain loose gems during the testing process.

A first rake head extends from the bottom end of the outer housing and has a plurality of tines. A second rake head is pivotally coupled to a lower portion of the outer housing and has a plurality of uniformly spaced tines. The lower portion of the outer housing is rotatably coupled to the upper portion of the outer housing. The lower portion is rotatable between a first and a second position. The second rake head rotates with the lower portion of the outer housing. The second rake head is positioned behind the first rake head when the lower portion of the outer housing is in the first position. The second rake head faces the first rake head when the lower portion of the outer housing is in the second position. The second rake head is pivotable between an open position and a closed position. The second rake head is spaced apart from the first rake head when the second rake head is in the open position and is positioned towards the first rake head when the second rake head is in the closed position.

This invention is a method and apparatus for air conditioning small and confined spaces, particularly where silence of operations is important, and wherein the method involves drawing air through an ice containing chamber and passing it into the confined space desired to be cooled together with provisions for adequate drainage of melted ice and adjustments for varying the actual temperature produced. It includes specially designed radiating tubes for special effect on the cooling ability.
