The present invention provides a hydrogel for comprising a biodegradable polyphosphazene polymer, a radiation-sensitive diselenide cross-linker; and one or more payloads releasably loaded within the hydrogel. The present invention further provides methods for radiosensitizing target tissues such as tumors and providing sustained delivery of therapeutics triggered by irradiation. In another aspect, the present invention provides a method that includes: introducing the hydrogel, as describes herein, adjacent to malignant or marginal tissue; and administering radiation to the hydrogel, thereby disrupting the selenocystamine cross-linkers and releasing the one or more payloads.

Contrast agents for x-ray imaging including stabilized metal nanoparticles and encapsulated nanoparticles, as well as methods for imaging tissue with these agents, are disclosed. Radiographic contrast agents for temporal subtraction and dual-energy x-ray imaging

Nanoclusters comprising inorganic nanocrystals and a biodegradable polymer are disclosed. The inorganic nanocrystals have a mean particle size of 1 to 500 nm. The inorganic nanocrystals are contained within a core of the nanoclusters, on the surface of the nanoclusters, contained within a core of the nanoclusters, dispersed throughout the nanoclusters, or a combination thereof. The biodegradable polymer allows the inorganic nanocrystals to be excreted renally over a period of time. The nanoclusters can be used for medical imaging or other biomedical applications.

The presently disclosed subject matter relates to iron oxide nanoparticle compositions and formulations thereof for: (1) the treatment and elimination of biofilms; (2) the prevention of biofilm formation; (3) biofilm extracellular matrix degradation; (4) the inhibition of bacterial viability and growth within the biofilm; and (5) the prevention of tooth or apatitic demineralization. In particular, the presently disclosed subject matter provides a composition for the prevention and treatment of an oral disease (e.g., dental caries) that includes one or more iron oxide nanoparticles and hydrogen peroxide.
