A pipe coupling adapted to support a pipe which is freely insertable into the coupling. The coupling includes a hollow body having external threads and a tapered inner surface. A nut having internal threads is co-operable with said body external threads at a first end and with an outwardly converging inner tapered surface at a second end. The coupling includes a deformable gripping member having an internal bore which receives said pipe. The bore includes a first internal surface and a second internal surface, where the second internal surface is of a smaller diameter than the first internal surface. This configuration accommodates pipes of a different diameters. Both of the first and second internal surfaces typically have projections that engage the pipe upon tightening of the nut. The projections for of one of the two different surfaces engage the pipe, depending on its diameter.

A nut and tail assembly and method of manufacture including a nut having a first end and an inward flange at the other end, a longitudinal cylindrical hollow body having a first end and a second end at which is located an outstanding flange and a circular longitudinal sleeve. The sleeve extends along said sliding surface and has a flange at a first end abutting against the body flange. A stop is located between the ends of the body and defines a cavity sliding surface generally parallel to the longitudinal body between the stop and flange. The nut inward flange extends into the body cavity and is of large enough diameter to be able to slide on said body sliding surface, but small enough to be held within said cavity defined between said stop and sleeve flange. Projections on the sleeve flange assist in locating the sleeve relative to the nut during the moulding process.

Method of manufacture of a nut and tail assembly

An annular collet or gripping member radially located within a coupling assembly of the type having a hollow body, nut and an O-ring or seal for connection of a pipe thereto. The collet is axially split, the split defined by first and second generally parallel ends that are of an engageable configuration, typically by one end having a projection and the other end a correspondingly shaped cavity enabling the ends to interlock. In the normal operation of the coupling, the collet exerts a longitudinal force on the O-ring causing a seal. When it experiences an axial force that would normally relatively displace the two ends causing a leak, being engaged to each other this movement is resisted ensuring that the seal is maintained. The present invention also relates to a coupling having such a collet.

A coupling assembly for plastic pipes including a nut, a body, a grip-ring, and a seal. The nut can engage the body through appropriate threads and includes a hooked projection having a sloping surface adapted to abut against and provide a force on a corresponding surface of the grip ring within the body. A pipe is inserted through the nut, grip-ring, and seal into the body. Tightening of the nut causes its sloped surface to engage and the grip ring to be forced both radially and longitudinally. Radial compression results in the grip-ring engaging the pipe whilst longitudinal forcing causes it to be forced into the body simultaneously abutting against and compressing the seal whilst dragging the pipe further into the body. The nut and the body may further have tapered surfaces that are brought together as the grip-ring is forced into the body. The physical connection between the body and the nut provides reinforcing for the nut, a feature especially useful when dealing with soft plastics. Further features include a lip on the grip-ring that provides an additional support for the grip-ring when compressed as well as an abutment shoulder on the nut preventing the grip-ring form being pulled out of the body.

Pipe coupling

A nut and tail assembly () and method of manufacture including a nut () having a first end and an inward flange () at the other end, a longitudinal cylindrical hollow body () having a first end and a second end at which is located an outstanding flange () and a circular longitudinal sleeve (). The sleeve () extends along said sliding surface and has a flange () at a first end abutting against the body flange (). A stop () is located between the ends of the body () and defines a cavity sliding surface generally parallel to the longitudinal body between the stop () and flange (). The nut inward flange () extends into the body cavity and is of a large enough diameter to be able to slide on said body sliding surface but small enough to be held within said cavity defined between said stop () and sleeve flange (). Projections () on the sleeve flange () assist in locating the sleeve () relative to the nut () during the moulding process.

Nut and tail assembly

A pipe coupling, wherein a pipe is freely insertable into the coupling and a nut causes engagement of a grip ring and gasket with the pipe to provide a seal between the coupling and the pipe, having a stop disposed therein to indicate to a user that the pipe has been inserted to a first position. Further tightening of the nut causes the pipe to move further into the coupling to a second position beyond the stop.

Coupling device for polymeric pipes

The present invention relates to a valve member for a valve of the ball valve type, including two shell parts rigidly joined together to form a valve member and generally snap-fitted over a frame. The two shells have opposed sealing surfaces and a flow passage extends through the shells and the frame. The valve member includes a means for engagement of a drive mechanism to enable rotation of the valve assembly, wherein said valve member can be rotated to present a sealing surface or alternatively rotated to present a flow path to a water supply when said valve member is located in a sealed fluid passage such as a pipe.

Ball valve

The present invention discloses an operating mechanism for a cistern (1) or flush tank which is able to be used for a wide variety of cisterns, irrespective of their volume to depth profile. The preferred mechanism takes the form of a generally cup-shaped weir (22) which surrounds the flush valve (18) and from which a support frame (7) extends. The height of the rim of the weir is able to be selected or adjusted, for example by the use of a number of rupturable panels (24) located in the walls of the weir (22). A mechanism (26,27) to adjust for height variations between the flush actuators (14) and the flush operating mechanism (15) is also disclosed.

Flush tank mechanism

An hydraulically assisted inlet valve is disclosed having a by-pass passage (32) which is permanently open. Preferably the valve has a valve body (13) reciprocally mounted in the inlet (4) and carried by a diaphragm (23). The by-pass passage preferably extends through the valve body (13) to apply inlet pressure to one side of the diaphragm.
