A system and method for carrying a downstream optical signal and an upstream optical signal on a fiber optic link is disclosed. The system and method includes a first transceiver unit that receives an input communication signal from at least one external communication device at an electrical input port, a transmitter that converts the input communication signal into an optical signal and transmits the optical signal as an downstream optical signal on a fiber optic link, a receiver at the second transceiver unit that receives the downstream optical signal and converts the downstream optical signal into an electrical communication signal, and a first circuit in the second transceiver unit that determines whether the second transceiver couples the electrical communication signal to a two wire intercom circuit or a four wire intercom circuit.

A connector module for interfacing electrical or optical connectors to electrical systems such as an audio/visual signal processing board. The module includes a housing defining at least first and second faces, at least the second face being less than about one square inch in area. There is a first electrical or optical connector at the first face, and a second electrical connector at the second face, in which the second electrical connector is a pin connector.

A system includes a multiplexing transceiver which is adapted to mount directly between a video camera and a camera battery pack, eliminating the need for triaxial adapters or other electrical cables at the camera and video production facility. A fiber optic cable carries upstream and downstream television signals between the camera-mountable transceiver and a remote base station transceiver. The camera-mountable transceiver includes a transmitter adapted for converting an electrical information input signal received from the camera to an optical output signal. The transceiver further includes a receiver adapted for converting an optical input signal received from the fiber optic cable to an electrical information output signal. A transceiver housing includes a first plate on a first side for mounting the housing to the camera and a second plate on a second side for mounting the housing to a power source.
