A method for managing data transmission between computing devices is disclosed. In one embodiment, the method includes monitoring a plurality of parameters of a computer network that includes a server and a client. The plurality of parameters may include a client resource parameter, a server resource parameter, and a network operating parameter. The disclosed method may also include automatically determining a desired compression level at which to send data to the client based at least in part on the client resource parameter, the server resource parameter, and the network operating parameter. Further, in one embodiment the method may include communicating the data from the server to the client at the desired compression level in response to a client request for the data. A method for managing medical image data transmission between computing devices is disclosed. A computer-implemented method for quantifying an object in a larger structure using a reconstructed image obtained from an imaging apparatus includes identifying an object boundary in a region of interest of the image and a region of exclusion, and determining a mean value of intensity in a neighborhood of the object to estimate a background value, excluding the region of exclusion. A technique is provided for improving digital images by analysis of the sampling rate of the image data. The optimal sampling rate is determined, such as based on the point-spread function of the imaging system, and is compared to the actual pixel sampling rate. Based upon the comparison, the image may be shrunk or sub-sampled to provide the optimal sampling rate that allows for optimal image filtering while accounting for inherent variations in spatial resolution of the images.

In the present invention, the temperatures of cooling passages in a gas turbine engine blade are changed, as by forcing a heated gas through them. The infrared signatures of the channels are measured during the initial temperature transient of the channels and the signatures are compared with a reference. The reference may be the signature of other channels on the same blade.
