An interventionless bi-directional barrier device of a downhole tool for use in a wellbore and a method of utilizing the barrier device to control the flow of production fluids in the wellbore are described herein. The barrier device includes a flapper mechanism having first and second flappers articulably linked together and articulably linked to a base member that is slidable within the downhole tool. The flapper mechanism provides a seal between opposing uphole-and downhole ends of the downhole tool upon actuation thereof. The method of controlling the flow of production fluids in the wellbore includes closing the barrier device to block flow through the tool, supporting the barrier device from a pressure exerted from a first direction, and supporting the barrier device from a pressure exerted from a second direction.

Interventionless bi-directional barrier

A wet connect/disconnect arrangement is disclosed for a downhole system that allows installation of various tools and/or a string and subsequent electrical connection to the downhole system in a wet environment. Several embodiments are disclosed, all of which produce a clean, reliable connection. Exemplary embodiments include an upper section being mechanically and electrically joined to an intermediate section with electrical connectors for being joined at a lower section. The intermediate section further has auxiliary connectors that may be protected by a cover and remain unmated in a first connected application being therefore available for future use. The upper section may be removed leaving the intermediate section in place whereby the unmated connectors are available to rejoin a new upper section. Different types of connectors are also disclosed.

A casing or tubing segment or segments are disclosed which can be used to create a parasite annulus during drilling. The cased wellbore receives a string containing valves and the drillstring operates through it. As the mud circulates, the segments of the tubing or casing provide communication at various depths from the parasite annulus (i.e., the outermost annulus) into the circulating mud, which is the innermost annulus. Each valve is adjustable to alter the amount of differential pressure required in order to open it. The valves are also in hydraulic pressure balance so that only the pressure added by the injected gas acts to open them. The valves close by a spring bias.
