An apparatus is provided that includes first, second and third switches, the first and second of which are in line between an appliance and terminals of the appliance that are connectable to a power source. The first switched is configured to open and close based on closing and opening of a door of the appliance, and the second switch is configured to open and close based on the mode of the appliance. Thus, the appliance may be connected to the power source when the first switch or the second switch is closed, and disconnected from the power source when both the first switch and the second switch are open. The third switch, which includes a sensor, is configured to control the second switch to close upon actuation in response to a detection proximate the appliance, where actuation of the third switch may cause the appliance to enter an operational mode.

Appliance having user detection functionality for controlling operation thereof

A door assembly and associated components for a dishwashing appliance are provided, wherein the dishwashing appliance includes a tub portion defining a forward access opening. The door assembly is pivotably engaged with the tub portion and cooperates therewith to cover the forward access opening. The door assembly includes an integrally formed and structurally reinforced inner door member, without a separate reinforcement panel. The inner door member includes at least one reinforcing member integrally formed therewith and along a contour thereof so as to provide reinforcement thereof. The dishwashing appliance further includes a covering member configured to encompass a wiring arrangement associated with the inner door member, for protecting the wiring arrangement within the dishwashing appliance. Associated apparatuses and methods are also provided.

Door assembly for a dishwashing appliance, and associated apparatuses and methods

A protective arrangement for protecting a control device associated with a dishwashing appliance is provided. A door assembly is pivotably engaged with a tub portion of the dishwashing appliance and cooperates therewith to cover a forward access opening defined by the tub portion. The control device is mounted to the door assembly and is adapted to selectively direct operation of at least one operational component of the dishwashing appliance. The protective arrangement is configured to wrap about the control device so as to be at least partially disposed between the control device and door assembly. The protective member is further disposed between a detergent dispensing device and the control device to at least partially prevent contact between dishwashing fluid from the detergent dispensing device and the control device. An associated apparatus and method are also provided.

Protective arrangement for a control device associated with a dishwashing appliance, and associated apparatus and method

Provided is a dishwasher door. The door may include a door panel member having a liquid dispenser unit mounted thereto and extending therethrough from an interior-facing side to an exterior-facing side of the door panel member. A fluid-directing member can operably engage with the door panel member about the exterior-facing side. The fluid-directing member may define a containment portion that at least partially surrounds the liquid dispenser unit. The fluid-directing member may also include a conduit in communication with the containment portion. The conduit can be configured to channel liquid leaking from the liquid dispenser unit from the containment portion and through the door panel member, away from the exterior-facing side of said door panel member.

Leak control system and dishwasher incorporating the same

A protective arrangement for protecting a control device of a dishwashing appliance, and associated dishwashing appliance, are provided. A door assembly, comprising a tub-facing portion of a polymeric material and an opposing outwardly-facing portion, is pivotably engaged with and configured to cover a forward access opening defined by a tub portion of the dishwashing appliance. A control device mounted between the tub-facing and outwardly facing portions selectively directs operation of an operational component of the dishwashing appliance. The protective arrangement includes a protective member extending about the control device and at least partially between the control device and the tub-facing portion. The protective member is comprised of a fire-resistant layer for preventing a flame originating from the control device from interacting with the tub-facing portion, and a non-conductive layer disposed between the fire-resistant layer and the control device for preventing electrical contact between the fire-resistant layer and the control device.

A safety arrangement for a dishwashing appliance and an associated apparatus are provided. The dishwashing appliance has a door covering a forward access opening of a tub in a closed position. A sump assembly about a lower end of the tub receives washing fluid therein, and a lower spray arm is rotatable about an axis about the lower end. The lower spray arm is configured to spray washing fluid from the sump assembly toward the tub. A control device actuates the lower spray arm to spray the washing fluid. A detection device interacts with the lower spray arm, and directs the control device to prevent actuation of the lower spray arm in response to the detection device detecting an abnormal displacement of the lower spray arm and/or a force applied to the lower spray arm, both with respect to the axis, with the door in the closed position.
