Qubit devices require fast operation, long coherence, and large scalability to be viable for implementation in quantum computing systems. A qubit platform device having long coherence, scalability, and fast operation includes a substrate, or trap region, configured to structurally support solid neon thereon. A trap electrode is configured to provide a trap voltage to the trap region and which creates a confining electrical field to a confining region adjacent to the trap region. The confining region being a region of space to confine an electron therein, confining the electron against the solid neon. First and second sets of guard electrodes are configured to provide variable electric potentials to first and second guard regions to allow for trapping and manipulation of a single electron in the confining region.

Noble gas solid-state single electron qubit platform

Technologies for resource-efficient quantum error correction are disclosed. A quantum computer may include physical gate qubits, capable of general quantum gate operations such as single-qubit operations and nearest-neighbor two-qubit operations. Each physical qubit gate may be controllably coupled to a quantum memory. The quantum memory may have a lower per-gate error rate than the physical qubit gates as well as a lower per-qubit cost. Because errors accrue at a lower rate in the quantum memory, the physical gate qubits may be able to perform error correction for a large number of logical qubits in the quantum memory, even if the physical gate qubits have an error rate relatively close to an error threshold.

Technologies for resource-efficient quantum error correction

Technologies for tuning a resistance of tunnel junctions such as Josephson junctions are disclosed. In the illustrative embodiment, a Josephson junction is heated to 85 Celsius, and an electric field is applied to the Josephson junction. The heat and the electric field cause the resistance of the Josephson junction to increase. Monitoring the Josephson junction during the application of the electric field allows for the resistance of the Josephson junction to be adjusted to a particular value.

Technologies for tuning superconducting Josephson junctions

A millimeter-wave resonator is produced by drilling a plurality of holes into a piece of metal. Each hole forms an evanescent tube having a lowest cutoff frequency. The holes spatially intersect to form a seamless three-dimensional cavity whose fundamental cavity mode has a resonant frequency that is less than the cutoff frequencies of all the evanescent tubes. Below cutoff, the fundamental cavity mode does not couple to the waveguide modes, and therefore has a high internal Q. Millimeter waves can be coupled into any of the tubes to excite an evanescent mode that couples to the fundamental cavity mode. The tubes also provide spatial and optical access for transporting atoms into the cavity, where they can be trapped while spatially overlapping the fundamental cavity mode. The piece of metal may be superconducting, allowing the resonator to be used in a cryogenic environment for quantum computing and information processing.

Millimeter-wave resonator and associated methods

Systems and methods of continuous cooling at cryogenic temperatures. One exemplary aspect involves a refrigeration system that includes: a chamber adapted to hold liquid and gaseous coolant received from a cooling pot; a first adsorption pump having an inlet end in fluid communication with the chamber, the first adsorption pump configured to capture gas from the liquid and gaseous coolant when the first adsorption pump is enabled; a second adsorption pump having an inlet end in fluid communication with the chamber, the second adsorption pump configured to capture gas from the liquid and gaseous coolant when the second adsorption pump is enabled; a means for desorbing the gas captured by the first adsorption pump; and a means for desorbing the gas captured by the second adsorption pump.

Systems and methods for providing continuous cooling at cryogenic temperatures

A quantum computing system includes a quantum processor having a plurality of qubits, a classical memory, and a classical processor. The classical processor is configured to compile a quantum program into logical assembly instructions in an intermediate language, aggregate the logical assembly instructions together into a plurality of logical blocks of instructions, generate a logical schedule for the quantum program based on commutativity between the plurality of logical blocks, generate a tentative physical schedule based on the logical schedule, the tentative physical schedule includes a mapping of the logical assembly instructions in the logical schedule onto the plurality of qubits of the quantum processor, aggregate instructions together within the tentative physical schedule that do not reduce parallelism, thereby generating an updated physical schedule; generate optimized control pulses for the aggregated instructions, and execute the quantum program on the quantum processor with the optimized control pulses and the updated physical schedule.

System and method of optimizing instructions for quantum computers

A system and method for accommodating various device and application security levels collects authentication data such as voice and fingerprint in advance of opening an application or process potentially requiring different security than the device itself requires. The device is then able to execute a user's voiced command, request or query without further user actions if the command, request or query is related to an application or process for which the already-gathered authentication data is sufficient.

Flexible security level for device interaction

Technologies for a long-lived 3D multimode microwave cavity are disclosed. In the illustrative embodiment, a series of overlapping holes are drilled into a monolithic block of aluminum forming a cavity. The dimensions of the cavity formed by the overlapping holes can be made long by drilling a long series of holes in a row and can be made high by drilling holes a certain depth into the cavity. If two dimensions of the cavity are bigger than the diameter of the holes used to create the cavity, then the cavity can support electromagnetic waves that cannot propagate through the holes, leading to a long lifetime in the cavity. A superconducting qubit or other non-linear element can be inserted into the cavity, which can controllably interact with each of several modes of the cavity. In this way, the modes of the cavity can act as components in a quantum memory.

Systems and methods of continuous cooling at cryogenic temperatures. An electronic device includes a biometric sensor, such as a fingerprint sensor, to identify biometric input. One or more processors are then operable to identify at least one paired device and at least one companion device operating within a wireless communication radius. The paired device then detects and identifies a simple gesture, communicating this in an electronic communication to a wireless communication circuit of the electronic device. The one or more processors then identify at least one authentication agent operating on the at least one companion device and select at least one authentication credential for the at least one authentication agent. The wireless communication circuit then delivers an authentication credential in response to the predefined gesture input.

A method includes detecting an interaction event on a display of a device in a locked mode. The interaction event originates at one of a fingerprint sensor of the device or an application icon and terminates at the other of the fingerprint sensor or the application icon. The interaction event is authenticated using the fingerprint sensor. A function associated with the application icon is activated responsive to authenticating the interaction event without unlocking the device.

To accommodate two different electronic cards, such as a subscriber identity card and a flash memory card, in an electronic device (100), such as a cellular telephone, a dual card reader (214) is employed. The dual card reader (214) has a reader housing (222) and two sets of contacts (410 and 412) carried on the reader housing (222). The dual card reader (214) further has a drawer (224) adapted for receipt by the reader housing (222). The drawer (224) is further adapted to receive a first electronic card (300) having a first size and a second electronic card (302) having a second size different from the first size.

The radiotelephone network (301) processes incoming and outgoing calls for the radiotelephone (303) using any one of the subscriber identities (306-308). A standard telephone interface (401) optionally provides communications between the radiotelephone (303) and one or more standard telephone sets (413-415) using any one of the subscriber identities (306-308). An apparatus, and associated method, for determining signal transmission quality levels of a discretely-encoded information signal received by a receiver. The signal strength of the received signal is calculated, and the levels of interference introduced upon the information signal is determined. The value of the signal strength is weighted by the amount of interference introduced upon the information signal. The resultant weighted signal forms the signal transmission quality level. The value of the signal transmission quality level is displayed to provide a user with a quantitative indication of the signal transmission quality level of the signal received by the receiver.
