Modular smoking devices that vaporize certain materials, such as tobacco or cannabis are disclosed. The technology provides for intelligent ignition, combustion, or vaporization of given material at the appropriate temperatures that prevent generation of harmful and unwanted byproducts. According to one embodiment, the modular smoking device comprises a self-contained combustion chamber to hold the material, a combustion mechanism integrated with the self-contained combustion chamber, and an energy source, such as a rechargeable battery, to power the combustion mechanism. The combustion mechanism is configured to provide targeted combustion of the material, where the active ingredients generated upon the combustion are consumed by inhaling a smoke or vapor resulting from the combustion or vaporization. The self-contained combustion chamber includes a lighterless combustion mechanism such as a piezoelectric lighter or a lighter sold under TESLA COIL LIGHTERS&#xae; that is designed to arc an electric discharge through the material in the self-contained combustion chamber.

Disclosed herein are systems and methods for mechanical failure monitoring, detection, and classification in electronic assemblies. In some embodiments, a mechanical monitoring apparatus may include: a fixture to receive an electronic assembly; an acoustic sensor; and a computing device communicatively coupled to the acoustic sensor, wherein the acoustic sensor is to detect an acoustic emission waveform generated by a mechanical failure of the electronic assembly during testing.

For example, the pairing of the portable device with the on-board computer of the vehicle may be utilized as a level of authorization to provide certain services in a more automated and/or convenient way to the vehicle driver or other occupant of the vehicle, such as by authenticating wireless transactions with entities external to the vehicle using device pairing technology, and by modifying vehicle navigation routes to include suggested nearby points of interest that may be determined to be of particular value to a vehicle occupant.

An adjustable armrest attachment for a secretarial chair has left and right elbow rests with depending posts independently selectively positionable within vertical channels formed in turned back outer ends of respective left and right, oppositely laterally extending bracket members. Superposed inner ends of the bracket members are attached to the chair by fasteners which pass through lateral slots to permit opposite lateral movement of the members to selectively vary the lateral spacing of the rests. In one embodiment the inner ends are attached by a bracket plate to a column that elevates a backrest at the rear of a seat. In another embodiment, the inner ends are attached by a knurled, manually manipulable knob to the underside of the seat. The rests are located to give the reduce antigravity stresses when the chair is pulled under a desk or table for raised hand operations, like typing.
