A device comprises an armature movable in a first direction and a second direction for causing a needle to contact and separate from a seat assembly. Stop means provide a motion stop in at least the first direction. Damping means are applied to the needle for reducing bounce of the needle when the needle contacts the stop means, by altering spring rates and vibration modes of the needle.

An apparatus is used to align, burnish, and secure an upper needle guide for a fuel injector valve body. The apparatus includes a lower portion having a fixture containing a spring-loaded plunger and a spring-loaded centering pin, and an upper portion having a burnishing tool, a spring-loaded stripper, and a crimping ram. The fixture aligns the needle guide and the valve body, and as the two portions are operated closed, the inside diameter of the upper needle guide is first burnished, and then the valve body is crimped onto the needle guide. The stripper holds the crimped parts against the lower portion of the apparatus while the upper and lower portions are operated open to withdraw the burnishing tool from the inside diameter of the needle guide.

A solenoid coil is fabricated by precision winding a length of magnet wire to form a free-standing coil, disposing the coil on a terminal holder containing electrical terminals, connecting the wire terminations to the electrical terminals, supporting such a sub-assembly within a mold cavity, injecting flowable plastic material into the cavity to wholly envelop the coil, the terminal holder and proximal portions of the terminals, allowing the plastic to cure and thereby form an enclosure which is devoid of any seams extending from its exterior to either the coil or the terminal holder, and then removing the encapsulated assembly from the mold cavity. This produces a solenoid coil that is well-suited for use in high-pressure 'wet' environments because the encapsulated assembly is strong and leak-proof and it has sealing surfaces whose surface finish and dimensions are closely controlled.
