A fuel injection apparatus for a piston engine includes a fuel injector body in which an injector needle is provided, which injector needle is arranged to prevent or allow fuel injection flow from the injection apparatus based on the position of the injector needle. The position is effected by a pressurized control fluid so that by applying the pressurized control fluid the needle may be urged towards its closed position and by reducing the pressurized control fluid the needle may be allowed to move away from its closed position. The injection apparatus includes a flow path for the control fluid, wherein the flow path for the control fluid comprises a restriction section providing a restriction effect to the control fluid flow. The restriction section includes at least one temperature-effected member providing a temperature-dependent restriction effect.

Fuel injection apparatus, a piston engine and method of operating a piston engine

A fuel system for an internal combustion piston engine includes a first fuel section and a second fuel section in which the first fuel section has a first inlet line connecting respective inlets of the injectors to a tank, and the second fuel section has a second inlet line connecting respective inlets of the injectors to a fuel tank. The second fuel section is arranged to inject the fuel into the combustion chambers for igniting the first fuel, in which first fuel section the inlet line extends from a high pressure pump to the respective injectors, and a fuel return line of the first fuel section extends from each of the injectors to the tank. The fuel return line has a pressure increasing means arranged to the fuel return line of the first fuel section between the injectors and the tank.

Fuel system for an internal combustion piston engine and a method of operating an internal combustion engine

A novel fuel injection unit for a large internal combustion engine includes a common rail fuel system. The fuel injection unit of the invention is constructed of at least a high pressure fuel accumulator specific for the fuel injection unit, a flow fuse, a first fuel injection valve with a control valve, and a second fuel injection valve with a control valve. The first fuel injection valve is a smaller one used for injecting at most 30% of the fuel required in full load operation of a diesel mode.

Fuel injection unit, a method of operating such and an internal combustion engine

An arrangement in the fuel injection system for controlling the fuel injection, the arrangement comprising a body part with a space arranged therein, through which space the fuel to be injected flows during operation, the space further having an inlet opening and an outlet opening therein. The arrangement further comprises a piston means, arranged movably in the space and a flow path for creating a flow connection between the fuel inlet and the fuel outlet openings. The flow path comprises at least one throttling portion opening into the space of the body part, the cross-sectional flow area of the throttling portion being defined by the relative positions of the piston means and the body part.

Arrangement in fuel injection apparatus

A fuel injection arrangement, which comprises a fuel source and a fuel nozzle connected thereto, including a fuel chamber and a needle valve arrangement in connection with the fuel chamber for controlling the fuel injection and an arrangement for bringing about a force effect on the valve of the needle valve arrangement in the closing direction thereof; a fuel control arrangement by means of the different switching positions of which, the fuel flow connection is connectable between the fuel source and the fuel chamber of the fuel nozzle as well as between the fuel source and the arrangement for bringing about a force effect, in which the fuel control arrangement comprises a mechanical force unit for changing its switching positions.

Fuel injection arrangement

A fuel injection system for a piston engine, in which the piston engine comprises an engine block with cylinders arranged thereto and at least one fuel injector nozzle arranged for each cylinder and connected to the fuel injection system and in which the fuel injection system comprises at least one fuel pressure accumulator. The fuel injection system comprises a dedicated fuel pressure accumulator for each cylinder.

Fuel injection system for a piston engine

A fuel injection system includes a fuel pressure boost pump having a pump body that defines a pump cylinder and a pump chamber. A piston structure is movable in the pump cylinder along a longitudinal axis of the piston structure. A fuel inlet conduit and a fuel outlet conduit are in flow connection with the pump chamber, the fuel inlet conduit being provided with a first one-way valve and the fuel outlet conduit being provided with a second one-way valve. A temperature sensor is in thermally conductive contact with the pump body.

Fuel injection system

A fuel feeding system for a multi-cylinder engine, especially a large diesel engine, includes at least two high pressure pumps for feeding fuel from a fuel tank into respective pressure accumulator units, each of which defines a pressure chamber which is connected to at least two injectors. A passage interconnects the pressure chambers of the pressure accumulator units without obstruction. An auxiliary valve is attached to one of the pressure accumulator units for selectively connecting the pressure chamber of that pressure accumulator unit to the fuel tank.

Fuel feeding system

An integrated pump and tappet unit for an internal combustion engine, includes a pump and tappet unit body composed of a one-piece casting, a tappet fitted in the body to be driven by the engine, a tappet arm connected to the tappet, and a piston operationally connected to the tappet through the tappet arm and arranged to pump fuel from a fuel chamber in the pump and tappet body under high pressure to be fed to one or more cylinders of the engine. A flange is fixed to the pump and tappet body and the tappet arm extends through the flange, so that the piston and the tappet are at opposite respective sides of the flange, and the flange is in sealing relationship with the tappet arm so that passage of fuel from the piston side of the flange to the tappet side of the flange is inhibited.

Integrated pump and tappet unit for a fuel feeding system

An arrangement for an injection pump in an internal combustion engine, especially a large diesel engine, in which the injection pump (2) is provided with a pressure medium controlled feed control valve (11), the flow circuit of which includes a pressure medium source (14), from which pressure medium is pumped through a delivery duct (16a) into a feed duct (17, 18, 20, 21, 22, 22a), which is provided with a non-return valve (23) and is connected to a pressure chamber (13) affecting said control valve (11) and to a spill passage (24) to be switched off by means of a solenoid valve (25), whereby closing of the solenoid valve (25) is arranged to provide a pressure increase in the pressure chamber (13) and, thus, a change of the state of the control valve (11). Said feed duct (17, 18, 20, 21, 22, 22a) between the delivery duct (16a) and the control valve (11) is dimensioned to be relatively thin and long and is arranged at least to its main part to be a stationary part of the injection pump (2), of its supporting construction (3) or of a stationary construction unit to be attached to these. Hereby a compact assembly can be provided.

Arrangement for a injection pump in an internal combustion engine

An injection valve arrangement for injecting a pressure medium into a combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine comprises a valve body formed with a feed duct and an actuation chamber, and an elongated valve member fitted in the valve body and movable in the valve body between an open position and a closed position. The valve member is formed with an internal chamber which is in communication with the feed duct and is also formed with one or more nozzle orifices which provide fluid communication between the internal chamber and the combustion chamber when the valve member is in the open position. The valve member has a piston surface bounding the actuation chamber such that force acting on the valve member due to pressure in the actuation chamber urges the valve member toward its open position against the force of a spring. A control valve controls feeding of pressure medium to the actuation chamber, so that when the control valve is open, supply of pressure medium to the actuation chamber causes an increase in pressure in the actuation chamber.

Injection valve arrangement

An injection valve arrangement for injecting an auxiliary medium into a combustion chamber of a cylinder of an internal combustion engine in order to reduce the concentration of noxious substances in the exhaust gases of the engine comprises a valve body bounding a first chamber into which the pressure medium is continuously fed through a feed duct and an elongated valve member for controlling the feeding of the auxiliary medium from the first chamber into the combustion chamber of the cylinder and being spring-loaded toward a closed position, in which it prevents the injection of the additional medium. The valve body also bounds a second chamber into which the auxiliary medium is fed, and the pressure prevailing in the second chamber urges the valve member toward the closed position. A control valve controls the pressure in the second chamber so that when the control valve opens, the pressure in the second chamber falls and the valve member moves to an open position allowing injection of the auxiliary medium.
