A perfume composition contains at least 50% by weight of materials which fall into five categories defined by structure, and molecular weight. Amounts of material within each category fall within specified ranges of percentage of the whole composition. Two categories, ethers and salicylates, must be present. At least two of the remaining three categories, which are alcohols, acetate/propionate esters and methyl aryl ketones, must also be present. The compositions enable good levels of deodorant activity to be achieved along with consumer-acceptable fragrance.

Detergent product containing deodorant compositions

A deodorant detergent product comprises a non-soap detergent active compound, and a deodorant composition. The product can be used for personal washing of the skin and will as a result reduce human body malodor. The product can also be employed for washing fabrics which when subsequently worn in contact with the skin aid in the reduction of human body malodor.

Detergent bars for personal washing are given a deodorant property by including an ester of citric acid. The ester may be an acetyl derivative. The amount of ester used will be in the range of from about 0.3% to about 3%. Examples of the esters are triethyl citrate and acetyl tributyl citrate.
