A skin engaging member for a razor cartridge includes an erodible first layer and an erodible second layer below the first layer. Each layer includes a lubricious water soluble polymer and can include a water insoluble polymer. The second layer includes a fragrance that can be in the form of microcapsules or a suitable additive of the polymeric material(s). As the first layer erodes during normal use of the razor cartridge the second layer is eventually exposed dissolving or fracturing the microcapsules or otherwise releasing the fragrance. The fragrance is malodorous indicating to e.g. a vision impaired user that the optimal life of the razor cartridge is at or nearing its end. The first layer can also be provided with a non-malodorous fragrance. A third erodible layer can be provided between the first and second layer and can also include a fragrance. End-of-optimal-life indication can be rapid or gradual.

Skin engaging member for a razor cartridge

A razor cartridge is provided that includes a frame, at least four razor blades, a guard that includes a contact surface, and a cap that includes a contact surface. The razor blades are supported by the frame. The guard is disposed forward of the razor blades and the cap is disposed aft of the razor blades. The razor blades are arranged so that the cutting edge of each razor blade is adjacent a plane that tangentially intersects the contact surfaces of the guard and the cap. As a result, each stroke of the razor exposes the surface being shaved to at least four razor blade cutting edges in succession. A unitary razor assembly that includes a head characterized in the same manner as the above-described cartridge is also provided.

A razor blade and support assembly is provided which flexes in response to shaving forces near slots in the blade support. A razor cartridge includes one or more of the aforementioned razor blade and support assemblies positioned in a housing. The razor cartridge may be permanently or removably coupled to a handle to provide a shaving razor.

A replacement cartridge for a razor assembly is provided that includes a shaving aid body for use with the razor assembly. The shaving aid body includes an aperture disposed within a contact surface. The aperture is sized to receive a razor cartridge. Some embodiments of the present replacement cartridge include a base. In some of those embodiments the base includes one or more features for attaching the replacement cartridge to the razor assembly.

A razor assembly is provided that includes a razor cartridge with one or more razor blades, a shaving aid body, a handle, and a linkage pivotally connected to the handle. The linkage is connected to the razor cartridge and the shaving aid body in a manner such that the razor cartridge and the shaving aid body are moveable relative to the handle. Movement of one of the razor cartridge or the shaving aid body in a first direction causes the other of the razor cartridge or the shaving aid body to move in a second direction substantially opposite the first direction. As a result, the positions of the shaving aid body and the razor cartridge are continuously adjusted to maintain the contact surface of the shaving aid body approximately co-planar with the cutting edges of the razor blades within the razor cartridge.

An improved skin engaging device for use in razor cartridge assemblies and shaving systems of the wet shave type. In an embodiment, there is provided a two-component, control-release device having a sheath layer made from thermoplastic resins with openings in its skin engaging surface, coextruded with a core region containing shaving aids. At least one end of the device is at least partially closed to inhibit the ingress of water at that end of the device and to inhibit the release of the shaving aid from that end of the device during a normal shaving operation. Enclosure of the end of the device can be by addition of an end cap, by application of a film of a suitable sealant or by suitably joining opposed inner walls of a portion of the sheath extending beyond the core.

Skin engaging device for a safety razor

In a razor cartridge, a frame has an opening defined in part by a leading surface and a trailing surface. Positioned within the opening are a plurality of cutting edges, each cutting edge defined by a blade. In a shaving operation, a hirsute surface contacts in turn the leading surface, cutting edges, and the trailing surface. A contact plane is defined between the leading surface and the trailing surface that provides a reference for determining whether a cutting edge has a neutral, positive, or negative exposure. All of the cutting edges within the razor cartridge have an exposure relative to the contact plane that is one of all positive or all negative.

The present invention is directed in one aspect to a razor cartridge having a shaving aid dispensing system that includes a housing that defines a cavity in which a supply of shaving aid film is disposed. At least one razor blade is positioned within the housing and has an at least partially exposed cutting edge. The supply of shaving aid film is positioned in the cavity and is used to transfer shaving aid to a user's skin during a shaving operation. An applicator is coupled to the housing adjacent the cutting edge of the razor blade. shaving aid film is drawn over the applicator in response to the razor cartridge being moved over, and in contact with, a user's skin during a shaving operation. The shaving aid film deposits at least a portion of the shaving aid provided onto the user's skin.

A replacement cartridge container is provided that includes a tub and a selectively removable lid. The tub includes a base panel attached to a side panel. The base panel and the side panel each have an interior surface and an exterior surface. A cavity is formed contiguous with the interior surfaces of the base panel and the side panel. The selectively removable lid attaches to the tub and forms a seal with the tub.

In a shaving implement a handle is provided that includes a body section and an end portion projecting outwardly therefrom. An axle member is rotatably coupled to the end portion for selective angular movement relative thereto. A razor cartridge is coupled to the axle member and includes at least one razor blade that defines an at least partially exposed cutting edge. The razor cartridge is rotatably moveable with the axle member and the detent is provided for releasably retaining the axle member and thereby the razor cartridge in the user selected angular position relative to the handle.
