An enhanced circuit breaker in an alternating current (AC) electrical distribution system offers improved safety and control over an attached load. The enhanced circuit breaker contains sensors, control circuitry, and a main switch and a load switch that are actuator-operated and wired in series on the hot wire between the line and the load. The main switch may be tripped by the actuator to open, while a manual intervention is required to close. The load switch may be electronically opened and closed by operation of the actuator. Sensors within the enhanced circuit breaker may be used to detect fault conditions, as well as gathering data that may be used for predicting failures. Data from the sensors from one or more breakers may be used to determine state of the system, predict failures, and so forth. The breaker operates the load switch responsive to an external command.

System for operation of enhanced circuit breakers

An apparatus powered by batteries may include a first processor and a second processor. The first processor may consume more electrical power than the second processor. The second processor acquires data from one or more sensors. At a predetermined time or other trigger, the second processor activates the first processor that is then used to send the acquired data to an external device. For example, items are stowed on the apparatus that includes weight sensors. The second processor awakens hourly, acquires weight data indicative of the weight of items stowed on the apparatus, and returns to a sleep mode. After 24 hours of acquiring weight data, the second processor activates the first processor to send the accumulated weight data to an external device, such as a server, using a network interface. Power consumption is substantially reduced, allowing the apparatus to operate without external power for extended periods of times.

Low power network connected apparatus

Electrical faults pose a significant risk to people and property. A system is described that deploys instrument devices with sensors to detect faults within an alternating current (AC) electrical distribution system. These sensors may detect electrical, optical, thermal, acoustic, radio frequency, and other phenomena associated with a fault. Data from different sensors may also be used to distinguish fault and non-fault status. Users are notified if a fault status is detected. Mitigating actions may be automatically taken, such as de-energizing a branch circuit associated with the fault status. Information about non-fault status may also be used to mitigate nuisance circuit breaker interruptions. In some situations, a nuisance interruption of a breaker may be automatically reset if all instrument devices connected to the breaker reported non-fault status before the interruption.

System for in-situ detection of electrical faults

An apparatus includes a platform that is supported by a first set of load cells. Output from these load cells may be adversely influenced by factors such as temperature, humidity, aging, and so forth. The device includes a second set of load cells that are unloaded, that is they do not support the platform. Output from the first set of load cells is digitized to produce first digital data while output from the second set of load cells is digitized to produce second digital data. The first digital data and the second digital data are processed to produce compensated data. For example, values of the second digital data may be subtracted from values of the first digital data to produce the compensated data. In other implementations, other processing may be used. The resulting compensated data may be used to provide highly accurate weight data about the platform.

The disclosed techniques relate to improving sensor data collection/reporting at an automatic replenishment device (ARD). For example, sensor data associated with the item stored at an ARD may be collected. The ARD can calculate a change in the amount of the item stored by the ARD from the sensor data. If the change is over a reporting threshold, the sensor data (or the amount of change) may be transmitted to a back-end system. Reporting may not occur if additional sensor data (e.g., accelerometer data and/or images captured at the ARD) is not commensurate with a user interaction. If the difference is under the reporting threshold or unlikely due to user interaction, the ARD may refrain from transmitting the sensor data. These techniques conserves power at the ARD, relieves the back-end system from needless processing, and enables more accurate indications of the amount of the item stored by the ARD.

Sensor-related improvements to automatic replenishment devices

A reorder device having an item tag reader and one or more sensors may facilitate the automatic reordering of an item for a customer. The item may be associated with an item tag that is placed on (or near) the reorder device. The reorder device may detect the item tag and transmit such data to an entity device, which may associate the reorder device and the item. The reorder device may periodically obtain weight measurements of the item that is placed on the reorder device, as well as a timestamp that indicates a time at which the weight measurements are obtained. Such data may be provided to the entity device, and an entity associated with the entity device may determine whether weight measurement satisfies an item threshold value. If so, additional inventory of the item may be ordered and delivered to the customer, without additional input from the customer.

Sensor data-based reordering of items

A system includes a fit test fixture. A first air bladder is connected to the support structure, and a second air bladder is connected to the support structure. The system includes a scanner configured to generate a three-dimensional model of a clothing item positioned over at least a portion of the fit test fixture, and a controller. The controller is configured to cause an air compressor to inflate the first air bladder and the second air bladder, and store the three-dimensional model of the clothing item in a database. The three-dimensional model depicts the clothing item at least partially inhabited by the first air bladder and the second air bladder. A processor is configured to generate a rendering depicting the three-dimensional model of the clothing item on a three-dimensional model of the consumer.

Clothing item measurement and visualization system

User input is accepted by a force sensing resistor ('FSR') assembly, a force sensing capacitor ('FSC') assembly, or both. The FSR or FSC assemblies may be located within an input device, such as behind a device exterior, display, and so forth. A force applied to the device exterior proximate to the assembly may result in a signal indicative of the force to the assembly. The signal may be processed to determine a particular touch zone was activated. A particular action associated with the touch zone may be performed. The particular action may be based at least in part on which touch zone which was activated, a magnitude of the force, or both. For example, the particular action may include a haptic output to provide feedback to a user.

Determination of input from force sensing input device under an unbroken exterior portion of a device

Computing devices are disclosed that use haptic technology to communicate data to a stylus device. This data may include, for example, updates to the stylus device, instructions on how the stylus should behave, authentication and identification information, and other data. This communication may also allow a stylus to implement security features and copy and paste functionality from one user device to another. In an aspect, the computing device includes a haptic element that provides a vibration force to the device or touchscreen of the device, and communicates data embedded on a carrier to the stylus. The stylus receives the vibration force through a pressure sensor on the stylus and used the information to enhance the user experience.

An interference suppression module coordinates devices susceptible to interference such as a touch sensor with potentially interference generating devices such as a display drive matrix, an active haptic device, and so forth. As a result of status signals generated by the interference suppression module, controllers of the susceptible devices may modify the input received to mitigate or avoid interference.

An audio accessory comprising one or more speaker units may be used to provide audio output for a media device such as a tablet computer, smartphone, and so forth. The speaker units may be affixed to various surfaces, such as an acoustic panel which serves as a portion of a cover for the media device. The acoustic panel may act as an acoustic radiator which is driven by one or more of the speaker units. When not in use, a pair of the speaker units may be joined together for compact storage.

Reconfigurable audio drivers

A device includes a haptic actuator to generate mechanical force stimuli in accordance with a triggering event. A haptic control system includes an accelerometer to measure the haptic response of the device. Signaling from the accelerometer is analyzed in view of an intended haptic response. A control signal may be modified in view of the analysis to correct out-of-tolerance conditions of the haptic response. This correction may occur in real time or near-real time. Component aging, shifting device performance, or other factors may be compensated for and user expectations satisfied accordingly.

Substrates for components such as a display, touch sensor, multifunction stackup, and so forth may incorporate one or more haptic actuators configured to generate haptic output. These actuators may be formed from a portion of a body of the substrate, or separate pieces bonded or otherwise affixed to the substrate. Audible output resulting from activation of the actuators may be minimized by coupling the actuators such that they produce a physical displacement of the body of the substrate within, rather than orthogonal to, the plane of the body of the substrate.
