A method of controlling a portable electronic device that has a touch-sensitive display includes displaying information on the touch-sensitive display, detecting a gesture on the touch-sensitive display, scrolling through the information in a first scrolling mode when the gesture is associated with a first area of the touch-sensitive display, and scrolling through the information in a second scrolling mode when the gesture is associated with a second area of the touch-sensitive display.

Some aspects of what is described here relate to managing the use of network resources on a mobile device. User input received at the device indicates whether to allow an application associated with a first perimeter on the device to access a network resource associated with a second perimeter on the device. For example, in some instances user input may indicate whether to allow data from applications associated with a personal perimeter on the device to be transmitted over an enterprise communication system. When outbound data associated with the first perimeter are received, the device determines, according to the indication from the user input, whether to route the outbound data to the network resource associated with the second perimeter.

A mobile wireless communications device includes a display, and a memory configured to store a plurality of applications and corresponding application data for each application. The mobile wireless communications device also includes at least one input device, and a processor. The processor is configured to search the application data for a search term to thereby determine whether each application of the plurality thereof has search results associated therewith, and present applications having search results associated therewith on an application selection screen, without displaying the search results, on the display. The processor is further configured to receive selection of an application of the plurality thereof via the at least one input device, and execute the selected application to thereby present the search results on the display.

Methods and apparatus for a comprehensive searching on a mobile device

Method and apparatus for transferring a file from a sending wireless device to a receiving wireless device in a short-range wireless system. A file to be sent to the receiving wireless device is selected on the sending wireless device. The sending wireless device has a device list of receiving wireless devices. If the receiving wireless device is absent on the device list, the sending wireless device searches and identifies new devices. A device among the identified new devices is selected as the receiving wireless device. A connection is established between the sending wireless device and the receiving wireless device; and the file is sent to the receiving wireless device.

Method and apparatus for providing files to electronic devices

A method and a device is disclosed, whereby the device can be a first electronic device. The first electronic device is adapted to be coupled to a second electronic device. The method comprises at the first electronic device certain steps which can be performed by a processor of the first electronic device. In particular, there is a step of generating first data for display at the first electronic device pertaining to an application executable on the first electronic device. Also, there is the step of receiving a signal at the first electronic device from a second electronic device in response to an event detected at the second electronic device. Finally, in response to the received signal, there is modifying the first data, and generating second data for display at the second electronic device pertaining to the application and sending the second data to the second electronic device.

Devices and methods for displaying data in response to detected events

An electronic device, such as a mobile communication device, and a method are provided for selective access to certain homescreen panels displayable by the device. The device is provided with a homescreen display, which includes a plurality of panels. The panels include at least one panel that is a fullscreen view of a first application executing on the device. This first application can be a messaging application, and the fullscreen view can be a unified inbox view for a plurality of different message types. The panels also include at least one launch panel having a number of graphical user interface elements, such as icons, representing access points to a corresponding application on the device. When navigating from one of the launch panels to the fullscreen view, an intermediate lock interface for receiving an unlocking input is displayed. The unlocking input is received before the fullscreen view is displayed.

Selective inbox access in homescreen mode on a mobile electronic device

A communication device having a display and instructions for displaying a short range wireless function. The instructions can cause the display of a Toolkit homepage in response to a Toolkit application being selected in a homepage of the communication device. In response to the short range wireless function being selected in the Toolkit homepage, status of the short range wireless function on the communication device can be displayed. In response to the short range wireless function being turned on, a short range wireless function menu can be displayed. In response to a pairing option being selected from the displayed short range wireless function menu, menu options for pairing a short range wireless device with the communication device can be displayed.

Remote device pairing setup

A system and a method are provided managing services associated with a mobile device. It includes detecting a new identity module card is in the mobile device; receiving a username ID and a password on the mobile device; and upon verifying that the username ID and the password are identical to a previous username ID and a previous password associated with the mobile device, the mobile device enabling access to the services. In another aspect, after detecting a new identity module card, and if an input is received to associate a new username ID and a new password with the mobile device, then the services are erased from the mobile device.

System and method for managing identity information after a SIM swap

A device, which may have a touchscreen display, and methods for its operation are provided using a graphical user interface and an overlay user input interface such as a virtual keyboard. The graphical user interface may include one or more user interface elements displayed in a first region of the display that are actuatable to invoke a corresponding function. When the virtual keyboard is invoked for display in the same region, the underlying graphical user interface is redrawn with a further user interface element corresponding to at least one of the user interface elements previously displayed in the first region, so that the further user interface element is actuatable to invoke a command to carry out the corresponding function. In another embodiment, the virtual keyboard may be modified instead to provide an action key corresponding to a function related to an application executing on the device.

User interface for a touchscreen display

A mobile device includes a memory to store an unregistered application and corresponding unregistered application data which is unable to be searched, and a registered application and corresponding registered application data that is able to be searched. The mobile device also has a processor to convert the unregistered application and the unregistered application data to a newly registered application and newly registered application data which is able to be searched, and search the registered application data and the newly registered application data for a search term to determine whether the registered application and the newly registered application have search results associated therewith. The processor also displays applications having search results associated therewith on an application selection screen on a display, with a subset of information about the search results being displayed, and receives selection of an application via an input device. The processor also executes the selected application to present the search results on the display.

Devices and methods for searching data on data sources associated with registered applications

A method and system are provided which enable an alternative identifier to be used instead of a normally used identifier such as a personal identification number (PIN) in a peer-to-peer (P2P)-based system. The alternative identifier can be used to avoid divulging the normally used identifier and can be cancelled or de-activated at a later time or can be converted to the normally used identifier at a later point.
