This invention relates to collet-type splices and collet-type dead ends and methods for splicing together two electricity transmission cables or terminating one electricity transmission cable, the cables comprising a composite core surrounded by a conductor. The collet-type fittings use a collet inside a collet housing to hold the composite cores without penetrating or otherwise weakening the core itself. The composite cores can be stripped of the aluminum conductor to provide a bond between the collet and the composite core. The collet seats within the collet housing thereby holding the composite core with frictional forces. The design of the collet enables the composite core to stretch longitudinally through the collet to strengthen the frictional hold.

The present invention introduces a radically different way of accelerating biomolecule conjugates into tissue, and hence towards their targets for purposes of tissue staining. The invention provides for an order of magnitude improvement over the prior art diffusion process used to stain tissue. This invention relates to an aluminum conductor composite core reinforced cable and method of manufacture. The composite core comprises a plurality of longitudinally extending fibers embedded in a resin matrix. The composite core comprises the following characteristics: tensile strength ranging from about 250 to about 350 Ksi; a tensile modulus of elasticity ranging from about 12 to about 16 Msi; and a coefficient of thermal expansion less than or equal to about 6&#xd7;10cm/cm&#xb7;&#xb0; C. This invention relates to an aluminum conductor composite core reinforced cable (ACCC) and method of manufacture. An ACCC cable has a composite core surrounded by at least one layer of aluminum conductor. The composite core comprises a plurality of fibers from at least one fiber type in one or more matrix materials. The composite core can have a maximum operating temperature capability above 100&#xb0; C. or within the range of about &#x2212;45&#xb0; C. to about 240&#xb0; C. or higher, at least 50% fiber to resin volume fraction, a tensile strength in the range of about 160 Ksi to about 370 Ksi, a modulus of elasticity in the range of about 7 Msi to about 37 Msi and a coefficient of thermal expansion in the range of about &#x2212;0.6&#xd7;10per deg. C. to about 1.0&#xd7;10per deg. C. According to the invention, unique processing techniques such a B-Staging and/or film-coating techniques can be used to increase production rates from a few feet per minute to sixty or more feet per minute.

More particularly, in accordance with the present invention, a tissue sample is embedded in a porous embedding media in a desired orientation, processed, and sectioned all while being held in the porous embedding media. The post-tissue processing step of manual embedding in paraffin is eliminated from the process.
