The possible network ports of a computing device are determined, regardless of whether they are currently usable. A network address is assigned to each possible network port. The network ports can include physical network ports and virtual network ports. Physical network ports can include physical network ports that are physically present, currently activated, and currently usable within the computing device; physical network ports that are physically present, not currently activated, and not currently usable within the computing device; and physical network ports that are not physically present and not currently usable within the computing device. Virtual network ports can include virtual network ports that have been instantiated and that are currently usable; and virtual network ports that have not been instantiated and that are not currently usable.

Configuration of servers for backup are disclosed herein. According to an aspect, a method includes storing first configuration information used to configure a first server. The method also includes storing second configuration information associated with the first server. The second configuration information may be designated as available for use by a second server when backup is needed for the first server. The method also includes determining whether backup is needed for the first server. Further, the method includes providing the first and second configuration information for use in configuring the second server to back up the first server in response to determining that backup is needed for the first server.

Embodiments of the invention provide a method, system and computer program product for dynamic time out determination during a microcontroller driven firmware update. In an embodiment, the method includes selecting by a processor of a server a firmware update to be applied by a microcontroller to firmware of the server and computing a timeout value according to a function based upon a date of production of the server. The method also includes transmitting a request to the microcontroller to apply the selected firmware update to the firmware. Finally, the method includes determining a failure state responsive to detecting a lapse in time from the request beyond the timeout value without response by the microcontroller.

Methods and systems for managing tunneled endpoints are provided. One method includes preventing a user from accessing an endpoint that was previously accessed by the user via a first URL including an address with a first port designation, creating a constructive bookmark to the previously accessed endpoint, and establishing a tunnel to the previously accessed endpoint based on the constructive bookmark. Another method includes preventing a user from bookmarking a URL to an endpoint. A system includes a processor coupled to a memory a module for managing tunneled endpoints that, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to perform one or more of the above methods.

Embodiments include controlling, by a master debugging module operating on a first virtual machine, execution of the software program within the first virtual machine; controlling, by a slave debugging module operating on a second virtual machine, execution of the software program within the second virtual machine including delaying execution of the software program within the second virtual machine relative to the execution of the software program within the first virtual machine; detecting, by the master debugging module, an error in the execution of the software program within the first virtual machine; and in response to the detection of the error, capturing, by a hypervisor, a snapshot of the second virtual machine.

Methods and systems for generating still images and video by capture of images projected by light passing through a display screen are disclosed. According to an aspect, a method includes controlling light emitting components of a display screen to activate in a sequence for displaying a sequence of images. For example, in an organic light emitting diode (OLED) display screen, the method may include controlling a subset of the display screen OLEDs to activate in sequence to display a sequence of images. The displayed sequence of images may appear to a viewer of the display screen to be a still image or a video. The method may control light emitting components different subsets of the LEDs to be activated in the sequence, such that different areas of the display screen display images in each part of the sequence.

Methods, apparatuses, and computer program products for load balancing servers are provided. Embodiments include determining, by a balance module, for each server within a rack comprising a plurality of servers, a vertical position of the server relative to the other servers within the rack; selecting from the plurality of servers, by the balance module, based on the determined vertical positions of the servers, a particular server to assign a workload; and assigning, by the balance module, the workload to the selected server.

Aspects of a distributed computing environment with remote data collection management include a management server, and a plurality of computer systems networked to and managed by the management server. Each of the plurality of computer systems includes a listening agent to receive process code from a management server and to control the periodic execution of the process code to collect data from the plurality of computer systems. The periodic execution occurs without requiring a connection to be maintained between the plurality of computer systems and the management server. Further, the data collected includes data collected from problem determination activities.

The present invention provides a method, data processing system and computer program product in which a plurality of software executable libraries (sub-libraries) are combined into a single software executable library. The single library comprises a plurality of register functions, each associated with a particular sub-library and each sub-library comprises one or more functions. When the library receives a request to register from a library manager it calls each of the register functions, each of which register the one or more functions of its associated sub-library with the library manager. Advantageously the library manager can subsequently interface with each sub-library as if the sub-library was a standalone library. Further a register function can be used for a library whether the library is sub-library or a standalone library, thereby reducing the effort to switch from one to the other.

A method and system for ordering and aggregating log streams. Log streams for events from different sources are received. If different sources have different recording cycles, or time epochs, that lead to different temporal granularities, then all of the log streams are combined into a single time epoch that is equal to the longest time epoch. Log streams from sources having shorter time epochs continue to retain information about their original time epochs, in order to retain information about the order of the events in those log streams. The log streams are re-ordered, both before and after being integrated into the aggregate log, by acquiring additional data from the different sources, thus permitting the likely cause/effect relationship between events.
