A method of assembling a combustion system for a gas turbine engine includes providing a combustion chamber frame, an inner casing structure, and an outer casing structure. The method also includes mounting the combustion chamber frame between the inner casing structure and the outer casing structure such that the combustion chamber frame is coupled to the inner casing structure and the outer casing structure.

Combustion system and method of assembling the same

A method for fabricating a combustor liner for a gas turbine engine is provided. The method includes providing an annular shell including a plurality of circumferentially extending panels, wherein the plurality of circumferentially extending panels includes a first panel positioned at an upstream end of the shell and a second panel positioned downstream from, and adjacent to, the first panel. The method also includes forming a plurality of primary dilution holes in the first panel and forming a plurality of secondary dilution holes in the second panel, wherein the primary and secondary dilution holes are configured to discharge dilution air into the shell.

A method for assembling a combustor for use in a turbine engine is provided. The method includes providing at least one support leg, forming at least one opening in the support leg, wherein the at least one opening has a perimeter defined only by a plurality of non-linear segments, and coupling the support leg to the combustor.

Method and apparatus for reducing stresses induced to combustor assemblies

A gas turbine engine includes a combustor system including a lean premix combustor and a water delivery system. The combustor is operable with a fuel/air mixture equivalence ratio less than one and the water delivery system is configured to supply at least one of water or steam to the gas turbine engine such that either the water or the steam is injected into the combustor to control emissions generated by the combustor. As a result, nitrous oxide emissions for specified turbine operating power levels are lowered.

Methods and apparatus for reducing gas turbine engine emissions

A replacement method facilitates replacing of a portion of a combustor liner within a gas turbine engine combustor in a cost-effective and reliable manner. The combustor includes a combustion zone that is defined by an inner and an outer liner. The inner and outer liners each include a series of panels and a plurality of nuggets formed by adjacent panels. The method includes the steps of cutting between an outer surface and an inner surface of at least one liner panel, removing at least one panel that is adjacent the area of the liner that was cut, and installing a replacement panel into the combustor for each panel that was removed from the combustor.

Methods for replacing combustor liner panels

A method of fabricating an annular liner for a combustion chamber of a gas turbine engine. The combustion chamber has a dome including a fuel nozzle for delivering fuel to the combustion chamber. A metal piece is formed into an annular section constituting at least a portion of the liner and having at least one seam extending generally axially with respect to an axial centerline of the liner. An upstream end of the liner is machined to have a registration feature for connecting the liner to the combustion chamber dome in at least one predetermined orientation with respect to the dome. Further, the method includes ensuring the registration feature and the seam are located relative to each other on the liner so the seam is at a preselected position with respect to the combustion chamber dome when the liner is connected to the combustion chamber dome in the predetermined orientation.

Method of making a combustion chamber liner

A retainer segment is provided for a swirler assembly having first and second members, such as a primary and secondary swirler or a swirler body and floating ferrule, disposed in sliding engagement with each other. The two members are maintained in sliding engagement by two of the retainer segments which are joined to the second member and engage the first member. Each retainer segment is an arcuate member defining inner and outer curved edges and first and second ends. Each end has a concave cutout formed therein to reduce weld joint and bending stresses that occur from the forced vibration of the retainer segments.

A method of repairing an annular transpiration cooled liner for a combustion chamber of a gas turbine engine. An annular portion of the liner including a damaged region is removed from between an upstream section and a downstream section of the liner. Sheet metal is formed into an annular replacement section having at least one axial seam extending between an upstream end and a downstream end of the replacement section. The replacement section is sized and shaped similarly to the removed annular portion of the liner. The upstream end of the formed annular section is joined to the upstream section of the liner and the downstream end of the formed annular section is joined to the downstream section of the liner.

Method of repairing combustion chamber liners

Multi-hole film cooling of combustor liners is enhanced by providing clustered groups of cooling holes in areas of the liners that would otherwise experience a loss of cooling film effectiveness. The combustor liner is made up of a shell having first and second groups of cooling holes formed therein. The cooling holes of the second group are more closely spaced than the cooling holes of the first group. The second group of cooling holes is located on an area of the shell where the cooling film effectiveness is degraded. Preferred locations include a region of the shell that is subjected to swirl impingement and a spot immediately downstream of a large opening in the shell such as a dilution hole, a borescope hole or an igniter port hole.
